Well, i ordered the parts i needed for JD800 anyway, and they arrived (From Amsterdam) very quickley and were packaged well. So, i can recommend this guy for spare parts to anyone.

Excellent service.

How much it took you for the rubber contacts replacement and does the JD work fully now?

47.85 Euros

Them bastards!

I guess its better to buy used JD-800 these days for some 400 EUR, disassemble it and sell it as parts. Just by selling the rubber contacts i can almost pay it off.

And where are all the buttons, sliders, keys, displays, boards.... my god... this goes over 3000 EUR at least. :D

No no, thats the price from Vintage planet, not Roland. I think its a good price.

I wouldnt buy a used JD for those parts , (key contacts). Chances are theyd be worn to some extent.

Im quite pleased the guy seems to have quite a good stock of Trident parts.

Well, first of all, thank you for calling me a bastard. :thu:

And I also want to congratulate you with your excellent idea to get a 400 Eur. JD-800 (obviously well-used for that price) and sell the old and worn rubber contacts to other people to replace their old and worn contacts for big bucks.

Although... you might find it a bit hard to get the same price for them as for brand new ones... but then, like you, others might not know the difference either. Still, it doesn't sound to me as a commercial enterprise that's going to last very long.

As for your meticulous calculation, leading to a total of 3000 Euro's for all the parts together, you seem to be surprisingly correct. However, it's a surprise to me that that's so clearly a surprise to you.

Say you have a 20-year old car, for which you paid 10.000 Euro's 20 years ago. How much do you think you would have to dish out if you ordered ALL of the parts of that car separately, brand new, from the manufacturer now?

Or are you just going to assume again they get one from the scrap yard and send you the worn-out remnants?

So please do yourself a favor and think before you write. Assumptions are not the best choice to replace information and facts.

It is not a surprise to me. I'm a synth tech:

That completely changes the situation - if they are new. As you might know, many "parts sellers" buy a bunch of old synths, disassemble them and sell "parts". I bookmarked your page, but haven't checked it yet. If your rubber contact are brand new, hats off, and accept my apologize.

Cheers!

Hey,

hi Senso :thu:

Cool to see you here. Those rubber contacts you sold me worked perfectly. I now have a fully functioning JD (at last :o )

Very pleased with your service. Will definatly use you again.

@Gilwe.

The owner of the Trident isnt enthusiastic about me opening it up to check the battery. Sold as seen. From pics ive seen, it looks a pretty complex beast inside, so i feel a little apprehensive about getting one without checking it fully (battery the main concern)

Also, the MK2 is obviously the more sensible choice, (although listening to yours and Toms demos of the MK1/MK2 they both sound great) as it has more patch memorys and the independent envelope generator for the VCF filter. It also has a beefier power supply.

Problem is you dont see them that often. but like the P6, a bad battery can be a real problem.

Hmmmmmm

(BTW is your avatar the inside of a Trident? looks similar)

Yes it is :D

Flat, get that beast !! I don't have to tell you how rare they are. The CEM version should sound just as cool (yah, since ownig the OBXa I become a great CEM fan ! ;) )

If everything work, you can expect the battery to be fine.

If the machine doesn't power up correctly, does all kind of wierd sounds and acts strangely - the battery has probably leaked.

You can expect to find some other problems resulting of its age, that's normal for such a complex vintage monster. So get ready to some maintanace.

The MKII has something like 25 SSMs inside, dunno about MKI... but I would expect for at least one CEM not to function so take into account that you'll have to spend a few buck on repairing it. Of course that you can eliminate this option by testing the unit top down. :thu:

Right, my mistake. Dunno why but I always had the impression babic said his has CEMs... So are the filters discrete really on the MKI ??

BTW, flat, you once said you liked the MKI sound better ... ;) and it's not like you have too many options here he he :)

Well, yeah, in the demos ive heard, but hearing both in person may be a different matter, as you never know how much processing has been added in demos etc etc

Then why the hell didnt you buy it
:D

......is it still for sale?

Nope. Friend bought it (the one who gave me capacitors - the Roginator). Then he repaired the brass section (i think multiplexer was gone) and few knobs and sold it.

Clusterchord was offered it for

You have to admit, its uncanny
:D

Trust me he really doesn't look like him. Maybe a profile, but face, totally different.

Just did google for Kurt Cobain, boy... it didn't left much of him after he shot himself. Or to better say, of his head. Just type his name into google images and you'll see what i mean. Too bad he ended that way... :(

Your welcome :)

@Gilwe/Don.

I contacted the guy again, but he seemed very cagey and apprehensive about me opening it up for a look. Says he has someone else interested. blah blah blah

A long way to travel, with a risk element. Im going to be patient, and wait for one to come along that i can check out fully. Better to be safe than sorry.
