I have my audiophile 24/96 which is fine, though i am ready to upgrade

long term, i am thinking emu here. but i also want this sonic cell. from what i read, it says "usb audio interface". i just want top make sure i am reading all this right, and frommy current understanding, it will allow me to:

-have a new audio interfae, though i am not sure if it woudl be an upgrade over the audiophile 24/96

-not sure if it would run the midi on my pc as well?

-could i route audio from my pc into SC to use its effects (cosm, here i come!)?

-if i plug my headphones in, once it is properly connected for all of the above settings (if they are as i seem to understand them to be, it just doesnt seem all that clear though) i can then monitor everything going on in my pc from within sonic cell, right?

the guy at sam ash,he wasnt all that helpful. he just told me it was the greatest thing ever, blah blah blah, if i wanted to go platinum, this was all i needed. of course he quit with that bull{censored} onc ei informed him that hey, i am a fairly seasoned vet with the boards and modules and i know what roland has and doesnt have to offer, and then he lost interest and didnt rally want to explain anything about the interface capabilities.

i "think"i know the answers to these, but again, none of it seems crystal clear and i would like to have the questions anjswered before i make a purchase.

It's obviously USB (2.0), and PCI typically results in lower latency, but I'd be willing to bet SonicCell sounds better.

Yes. You can plug a controller into the SC's MIDI in and your sequencer will see it. You can run the SC's MIDI out to another synth or module. So SC is an audio interface and MIDI interface with extra ports. That is, if I read the manual correctly. Haven't even seen one in person yet.

Yes, but I don't think SC has COSM effects. It has the same effects (or at least very similar) as the Fantom X. The MV-8x00 has COSM, V-Synths have COSM, VS-series recorders have COSM, Roland's romplers do not.

-if i plug my headphones in, once it is properly connected for all of the above settings (if they are as i seem to understand them to be, it just doesnt seem all that clear though) i can then monitor everything going on in my pc from within sonic cell, right?

As I understand it, yes.

The Fantom X has COSM, at least for amp sims. It may be a question of how many of the EFX are modelled versus ... (um) not so modelled.

By reading product specifications, I don't think so. But as owner of SonicCell, you must know better than me...
:freak:

So SonicCell has COSM Oscillators and filters I have not found that.On the box the is a big COSM sign as on Website and has the same 78 Effects as Fantom X like the same RSS effects.

Also on Roland.co.jp SonicCell has COSM sign.

http://www.roland.com/products/en/goPrd.cfm?sStnd=0000000029&ln=en&sSrchBy=func

As been said before SonicCell has the same Synth engine and COSM effects as Fantom X.

Roland doesn't say the Sonic Cell has ' the same COSM effects as the Fantom X"

I word searched ' 'COSM ' on the Sonic Cell manual

It came up twice- as a patch name

That doesn't confirm your Sonic Cell has COSM FX like the Fantom X

Sorry

No but why does it have a COSM sign on the box and many roland sites.

I did the same in Fantom X and no word about COSM In Fantom X manual either.

Fantom X and Soniccell has the same COSM sign and same MFX and master Effect.

Rolandus.com says this on the Fantom X:

Complete Studio Effects and Mastering Tools

Onboard effects include separate reverb and chorus processors, plus three multi-effects processors loaded with sound sculpting tools ideal for creative sampling. These include algorithms like COSM Guitar Amp Modeling

Its more likely Roland just did not include COSM notes in their literature for the Sonic Cell. I know about the logo, but there is so much advertising on boxes.

I rely on the explicitness of specs.
