Members mcnova
Novation released its SL MkII controllers which seem to have a greatly enhanced Vegas mode. Also they ship with Automap 3 and feature touch-sensitive encoders. http://www.novationmusic.com/products/sl_mkii?option=1 http://www.soundonsound.com/news?NewsID=11416

I thought they were a joke at first. So many lights. That said, I guess that's why I saw a bunch of online stores putting the original SL controllers on clearance. That said, I guess that's why I saw a bunch of online stores putting the original SL controllers on clearance. They took away a whole LCD screen. I don't dig that. All the other stuff on there is more like a gimmick. A cool gimmick, but the same. At least they updated the pads.
Members ShakaCthulu
When is Messe again? They took away a whole LCD screen. I don't dig that. All the other stuff on there is more like a gimmick. A cool gimmick, but the same. At least they updated the pads. Yeah, why'd they ditch the other LCD screen? Just looks very convoluted and inconsistent to me. Why not LED rings on all knobs? The BCR-2000 has them in spades for a pittance. They did add the speed dial I guess. Members stikygum
That's ok by me because I really like the 37 keyboard that I have and the new ones only offer the 25, 49 and 61. The LED rings is a bit weird how they only put it on half the knobs. To me, it doesn't look as straight forward. I like the lit buttons, that was a nice touch, but the only nice touch. They dumped the screen basically to cut costs. WTF, the reason why the SL is so great is because of the dual screens. Another thing they should've done was make the drum pads light up like the Kord Pad Kontrol, which I have. I love that thing and won't get rid of it since the velocity you hit the pads shows up on it's LED.

Members depulse
After having spent three days now waiting for something new to be presented, I hereby declare this years Musikmesse as the worse one I have seen since I started with music in the late 80s. Yes, we are in a recession, but go back to the drawing boards and create something new or improve already existing products. With the exception of some small boutique synths, are all the large exhibition halls at the messe full of only old stuff and hot air? That is quite an achievement. Even Behringer seem to have run out of things to copy (although it seems that they have some new speakers that are inspired by KRK and Adam). Behringer dropped the DDX3216 due to the RoHS directive, but couldn't they create a new version without lead or bring out a whole new digital mixer? Some quick examples: The new low end Macbooks have no firewire, give us Macbook Alu owners some new USB alternatives that are not made for 13 year olds that just have started making music (here only RME seem to have acted). Where are USB keyboard controllers that are professional, i.e. at least as good as what is in the big 3s workstations. That includes aftertouch, a casing not made of plastic, a cool but not kitch design (taking cue from the Apple unibodys for example). What has happened to Korgs VST development? Is the whole team fired? It started so good and the later versions haven't been cracked. Give us a virtual Z1, Trinity, Triton or even a Poly-800. Make a nanoTriton that is small enough to put into a backpack, without any keys and that can stream the sound using USB. Yamaha, give us a small controller with the Motif engine built-in. What happened to the team working with modeling, are they still alive? Bring out a new VL1 or An1x that takes advantage of todays computing power. Roland, bring out a 2009 version of the Juno-106 that is using real analog oscillators and filters. Go plunder and exploit your past, there are many synths that could be recreated digitally, there are so much more than just 303s and 808s. Ask UA to code them, if you don't have the necessary competence. Well, what do I know? (Music making is just my hobby) But there are several products I want to buy that do not exist. Members qtuner
Yes, we are in a recession, but go back to the drawing boards and create something new or improve already existing products. I hope the music industry takes your advice because the innovators are going to pull us out of this economic mess. China is ramping up capital investment into their infrastructure because they see a weakened America and what to take the lead. This holds for MI too. Music Industry CEO's: Now is the time to take some risk when all your instincts tell you to retreat.
Members llamastorm
I'd really like to see a hardware board that did modelled Rhodes/EPs and pianos... romplers with extra-puny amounts of RAM in it don't do it for me. Software is an annoyance. (And a nice keyboard on it too, please). I am agreed about controller quality being lousy. I wouldn't mind having a very good control and just going towards racks/modules, but I hesistate because they're all plastic. I'd really like to see some people put out some really weird viscous good sounding synths, VAs now seem rather tame today and there isn't a lot of innovation. Where's my keyboards with crazy three dimensional joysticks and fog machines and lasers shooting out of them? I need lasers.
