Synth newb question

I am getting ready to buy a Yamaha mox6. The other keyboards that i gig with are old old old, and I have no idea how to do anything other than find a sound and play it.

If I get this synth, is it possible to connect a slave midi controller to it and use both the midi keyboard and the mox6 keyboard and play different sounds at the same time?

Or would I be limited to one sound at a time. I reckon I could split the keyboard, and assumedly could adjust the register so that if I play clav and brass at the same time one wouldn't have to be the lower register only. right?

The mox6 sound set is so much better than anything else I have, I'd like to find a way to use them and not have to mess with these old units any more.

What are the other keyboards that you are gigging with? There might be a chance you can already play two sounds at once. While the MOX6 can certainly do this easily, it's kind of overkill getting a full-fledged synth workstation just for this feature. Even most cheap Casios let you play two sounds via MIDI.

Are you getting rid of the older keyboards and trying to create a 2 keyboard setup with the MOX6 and keyboard controller?

Yes, and I want the mox6, and don't want to use the old yammie and kurz K2500xs. 80 lbs is a lot to carry around on a gig for old technology and so-so sounds.

I found the K2500 manual online and spotted this in the glossary section:

Setup - A multi-timbral performance object. A setup consists of three zones, each of which can be assigned its own program, MIDI channel, and control assignments. These

assignments control the K2500

And that feature is not the only thing I want to get out of thr mox6. i am hoping to learn how to use a synth...

Do you want the controller to control the yamaha sounds by playing one sound on the yamaha and a different sound on the controller, that can be done. Do you want the controller for softsyths. Do want the controller for more key range or as a midi control station. These are important things.

If you do not want to fool with midi mapping and channels or foot controllers, buy another synth/keyboard to join your MOX in the performance and call it a day. There are many good choices out there for under $500 new.

Do you need piano sounds? trust me I have an answer. Do you want to bypass midi?

thoughts for you. (KISS) "Keep it simple stupid."
