Members swanusa
In my past 15 years of life, I have been passionate about music. Be it playing the Piano or other instruments, or composing, or singing, or lot of listening etc. Now, I'm getting a lot of new opportunities professionally and some projects in hand are pending. All of a sudden, I feel like I can't do good music!! It's not a writter's block, I'm sure. Just this self doubt is creeping up and when I listen to something really good, I get stressed out instead of enjoying it. Has this happened to you?? Is this just the pressure? but I am a very happy-go-lucky person. How do I start enjoying making music? I don't want to end up being like Saliery....envying others' beautiful music. Please help! Members Randy Van Sykes
We all have doubts and worries that other people will not like what we do.But some projects aren't meant to be.Just do what you do! It got you this far...I don't believe you can write freely and at your best while holding on to a fear like "is this gonna good enough?"
Members bigchris
Every time I'm working on a song for say more than an hour I gradually go from thinking 'this is really great' to having doubts about whether it's any good at all. The only thing that seems to remedy this is to put down the guitar and walk away and pick it up again later, but if you're doing things professionally then I guess that's not an option so much as it is with personal endeavour, however the other thing that I find works is to let other people hear the stuff I'm writing and if they like it, I tend to like it a bit more.. but that's probably just my self-confidence and validation issues creeping to the surface, lol. Members dw kleine
Do you think guys like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Willi Nelson etc etc etc, ever worried about what other people thought. Heck, thats why Willi, Waylon, Johnny Cash and others told Nashville to shove it, they wanted to make their music, their way. If you're trying to please today's teenagers and the record industry, you better be writing nuthin but rap and punk crap. Record industry doesn't care about the music or the message, it's all about the bucks. So, do your thing and have fun doing it. DW
Members Slave_New_Wurld
Yeh I sometimes get a bit frustrated thinking "I wanna do a jazz piece" (dumbed down a bit cos I'm not quite good enough for that yet) but then I'll think I have another side of me to express, so what I end up with is a crazy mix of jazz, folk and more punk inspired music. I think you should just write write write, get things down, get ideas figured and finalized and give people a good taste of your many moods and feelings. Let people know what you're intouch with. Actually, that was just meaningless rhetoric wasn't it?
