It's a tie

Hey, Ferdinand

This has a nice, ultra-alienated early 80s vibe to me, although I have some serious qualms about the mixing (this ain't the mixing forum, so I'll leave those to a footnote).

I normally don't comment on lyrics unless they're posted somewhere, and I definitely can't make out much of these, but I like the sort of Nick Cave-does-black-metal sensibility of the vocals (and I'm not normally a fan of BM vocals much at all, but then, more Nick here than screamogrowl). I think the music, as I parsed it out of the mix, served them pretty well in the sort of retro sensibilty I perceived.

Now... about that mix. (I used to be a studio rat, it's in my blood, even if I ended up hating being in the music biz.)

I'm not really sure that the heavy stereo-ification that causes the whole mix to sound like the middle has been sucked out of it with an industrial shop vac set on 11 and seems to make the bass virtually non-existent and the drums more of a suggestion than any kind of force is really working for this. And then the application of stereo phasing or flanging just makes it more indistinct.

But, in the big scheme of things, these are pretty small, and quite fixable, so please don't feel like I'm beating up on your song. (Although I'll admit, I'm banging a bit on the mix. ;) )

Now, it's entirely possible that you produced and mixed this on a rig that had something mis-set, in which case, what I hear could be entirely different from what you hear. (A good test would be to put on a familiar CD through your recording monitor rig and make sure it sounds as expected.)

Something like reversed polarity on one channel (which often happened in the past, when many folks used separate amplifier and speakers and would often get the polarity of one set of speaker leads opposite that of the other side).

Or a really bass heavy, overamped subwoofer balance might make this sound about right. And then, of course, a standing wave bass resonance in your mix room could really throw what you hear off, super-emphasizing one portion of the bass.

All of the latter, of course, is why people try to use the flattest most neutral monitors they can find and treat their mix -- and live tracking rooms, for that matter -- to avoid not just early (side) reflections, but also the very common problem of standing waves -- particularly problematic in smallish rooms with parallel walls -- got parallel walls? Almost everyone does, of course.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the song and performance, and that's the most important thing. Mixes are a matter of tinkering and tweaking. They're important, of course, but they come in time with practice, experience, and getting the most out of your rig and set up. But... like I said... that's for some other forum, really. ;)

Well, my vibe was supposed to be sorta Kyuss meets Muse or something but I guess you could say that was alt rock in general.

Now, about the mix you should talk to my friend, I know jack{censored} about mixing.

I can only say what I dont like, sadly I dunno how to explain it.

Thank you for the CNC

Oh. I see. lol Thank you.

Eek, the beginning made my left ear go funny cause of the panning (to the left speaker). lol

This is SO 80s, yeah...kinda creepy...very creepy actually. Reminds me of someone...can't think who right now. (maybe something like that Blue Monday song...?)

This isn't my style of music really, but I like it for what it is. I can't make out many of the lyrics, but do like the sound and type of kinda tunnel-creepy vocals...
