Members drandref10
Im going to change my strat around and put kinnman blues pickups in the middle and neck position and a moe jo in the bridge. I was planing to have a 250k working for the neck and middle and a 500k working for the bridge pickup and then just a single tone control. What kind of tone control should i use? Should i stick with my idea of one or will one tone not work equally well for my single coils and the humbucker like the volume control? Also how many pots i have routed in doesn't matter to me i just want optimum tone for all the pickups.
Members WRGKMC
If you use 2 different pot values for volume you will have a volume imbalance. Stick with both being 250K, 500K or 1M unless the pup ohms dictates you need a difference. For example I have a Bass with a humbucker with high ohms and a single coil with low ohms. I needed to use a 250K on the single coil to match the humbucker that had a higher ohms that used a 500K. As far as wiring 3 pups for 2 pots you will need to decide which pups are attenuated. The choices are, Attenuate 2 pups with one pot and one with another. Or you can have a master that covers all and a second to attenuate a single. You could also use 3 volumes one for each pup and have one a dual pot that also adjusts tone. I used to go for experamental wirings like that but have moved back to simpler is better. I usually found a volume setting that was within a notch or two could be duplicated by making a pup height adjustments. I also found killing volume at the end of a song difficult with 3 volumes. Looks unpro fiddeling with so many knobs at breaks plus distracting trying to know which ones to turn down when your focus should be on the audience. A single tone does works fine though. I have it on a few of my builds and actually prefer it to two tones. To install it you simply connect the cap bettween the hot wire coming into the guitar and a center pot leg, and have the side leg grounded. But if i use one volume the 1volume being the 250k doesnt that mean i wont get the most out of my humbucker? If im going to spend 70 on the humbucker and close to 200 for the single coils i want all of the tonal quality to shine through.
Members almightycrunch
think you better talk to Chris Kinman first, they are their own unique product, rules that you'd follow for other pickups dont work with Kinmans.
