Thanx Furtive. I needed that. Immediately after turning off the camera we got a smudge on the body above the stripe. I tried to "nail polish remover it" only to make a bad thing a very very bad thing. I re-taped and shot the red but I overprayed ah!.........long story short, I resprayed the black stripe but now im gonna have to tape and sand the red above it. No more red paint, so I have to go a little trip to R & S Strauss and I know they dont have it in yet cause I bought the last 2 cans Monday. Oh well patience is the key in this line of repair. I learned a good lesson......always wear gloves when handling the repair!!!!!and have PATIENCE!!!!Grasshopper!

Thanx again Furtive for the pat on the back. I really needed it to keep me going.

Peace

finished it last night and strung it up. the kahler bridge saddles had to be adjusted really high. one saddlle had a bent screw so thank goodness i had a spare one. plays and sounds like butter. i didnt clear coat the guitar but after the paint hardened I compounded it out and it shines like glass. I imagine if i did clear coat it you would need sunglasses to be in the same room with it. LOL Ill post pics later.

Nail polish remover is acetone. Just as a head's up, don't spill that stuff on wax-treated tile floors. Landlord will look very irritated when he sees melted kitchen floor tile.

When working with solvents, be sure to understand how they react with binders and stuff like that. I'm out of my depth here, but my stepdad is a chem e that specialized in coatings. He used to give me hints when I was a youngun.

And don't quit until you get that Bladerunner perfect. Just remember - there aren't many of them out there. It's a PITA to spend time getting it right, but it's even more of a PITA to have to re-do it. I once heard someone talking about vintage guitars and say "I'm not the owner, I'm the caretaker."

Great advice. I wound up sanding up to 1000 grit and then rubbing compound. It came out so nice! then i rubbed out the whole guitar. I reassembled without spraying any clear coat. I couldnt find info on spraying clear coat over rubbing compound. could i give it a good cleaning with soapy water now and then shoot clear over the rubbed out finish? it really shines with just a day of curing before i used the rubbing compound. i imagine if i shot clear 5-10 coats over this and then WAITED a few weeks[some reccommend months] and then doing the 1000 grit sandpaper and rubbing compound treatment. WOW! Im just concerned that the clear might not adhere to the finish now because of the rubbing compound.

On another note, the second GUILD Bladerunner arrived last night from minnesota. WOW! this one has a tone pot with a circuit board attached to it and the little switch is wired with a cap. I know its some sort of FAT switch but I see that EMG has a lot of different circuits available to fatten or vary tone and output. This circuit would have to be 80's original. I am new to EMG actives never having a guitar with one before. any ideas? ill post pics.

thanx in advance

Day-yuhm. How many surviving Bladerunners are still out there, and are you going for the entire production run? I swear I never heard of this guitar until you posted about it here. In any case - it's always good to see someone that knows their stuff about something specific and is actively pursuing it. Props to ya.

Since I'm reading a collection of P.K. Dick stories, this guitar gets my vote for the weird/cool factor. :thu:

Daaaaaaaaaaang, that's a nice collection! The red is superb and I'm diggin' on the green one too. I'd seen pictures of one other Bladerunner before but I thought it was a custom job where someone went wild with a jigsaw. It's pretty cool to learn that they were production, albeit limited production.

What does your avatar say? I saw it on your blog and though I have the font installed that shows it properly, I wasn't able to cut and paste into a translator.
