Members EngineGuitarist
im a sceptic, part of me really doubts they are better than the URS stuff. and SSL has their own FREE plugin for the buss compressor. but do let us know what ya think about them. Members Brittanylips
The buzz is that these sound GREAT. On the other hand, Waves' draconian policies and customer service are so bad that it's enough to steer many potential customers, myself included, away from them. However, because of the quality of these new plugs, I think many folks will hold their nose and buy them, they are that good. At the same time, there are rumors that SSL is working on their own plug-ins, and that the freebie was a taste of things to come. if that's the case, I'd much rather buy from them than from Waves. -Peace, Love, and Brittanylips
Members aliengroover
Well, these were made under license and assistance from SSL, so in a large way these are "official" SSL plugs. I'm surprised this wasn't already done under their own roof, much like Sony did for the Oxford (and SSL recently did with the LMC). I hope they will do it with the next generation and keep the price competitive.Peace

Members aliengroover
I hear you. I hope Neve does the same thing, and learns alot from their current partnership with UA. Should prove interesting. Peace
Members seaneldon
with regards to that SSL free compressor that came out...wasn't that the compressor in the talkback section of a console? it sounded like kaka.

Yes, you are correct - it's a plug-in version of the talkback comp. Famous for that "80's squished drum sound". I got it, and it's pretty close to the SSL hardware, and it was free, so no complaints from me. If you're a fan of the SSL 4000 series boards, and not everyone is, the new Waves SSL plug ins do sound very good... and in general, I've been a pretty big fan / supporter of the Waves plugs in general. Supertap is one of my favorite delays, and I generally like the Ren bundle stuff. But I have to agree with Blips regarding their current support and upgrade policies - IMO, that's hurting them a great deal in the court of public opinion - but I honestly don't know how that reflects in the marketplace... maybe it's been great for their bottom line - I dunno. But in general, ticking off your user base is something I think isn't a good idea from a marketing / PR standpoint.
Members aliengroover
This "demo" authorization process of jumping through hoops is just a tad unnerving. If you don't have your production computer online (which I don't), you actually have to install it on the computer that is online. Eh...I was looking forward to checking them out tonight, but I'll wait and do it later.Peace
Phil O'Keefe
I keep my studio computers OFFline too. I know several people who do.
Members aliengroover
Not to gripe, but now I'm put off. I went through the entire procedure, and after more hoop jumping, I finally got it authorized. Woo-ho...er, not yet. So I take it to the "production" comp, load up PT...everything's fine so far. Try to put it on a track...PT disappears. Try it again...same thing. I restart PT for the first time and then I get the "your trial has expired" message. What the?! Can't call them, as they're closed, nor can you e-mail them if you're not part of their little "program". I've never had any problem with an iLok auth before. Never say never, huh? All interest in demo'ing them anytime soon just went out the door. I may or not purchase them, as I'm stuck with relying on other's opinions on them, unless somehow it magically starts working.Peace
