Members midsummermagic
Hey there, I'm new to this recording thing. I am at my max frustration level .. after hours and days of learning. Here's the problem.. I don't understand why my song is distorting? It isn't peaking and the volume level is mostly in the middle. I don't even think I have any peaks nearing the top. Can someone more experienced than I take a look and point me in the right direction?? I would be ever so grateful. (**please note.. I'm not finished with lining up the vocals & keys, but thought I'd better post this in advance to save time) Many thanx for your time, Mandy

Members midsummermagic
The keyboards distort on all the hits from the very beginning.. at least on my speakers.
Members sdsweet
I just listened on my laptop speakers (which I'll assume is worse case) and didn't hear any distortion. There were a few chords that sounded louder and a little wierd, but I'm not sure it was distortion. They actually just sounded out of tune (to my ear). idk man... are your speakers good? do they distort when playing any other music?

Members boosh
Maybe the keys were recorded distorted and mix with a good recorded voice afterwards? That's why the audiofile doesn't go through the ceilling anywhere. They don't sound awfully distorted to me. I don't like the sound and playing but that's a totally different story. Members albiedamned
I don't hear any distortion, but I do think I hear some phase problems. I particularly noticed it on some of the higher chords - they sounded pretty thin. Is this a keyboard piano sound, or a real piano that you mic'd? If it's a real mic'd piano, describe what mics you used and how you placed them. Edit: One particularly noticeable example of phasing is at 0:49 to 0:50. Members albiedamned
Since it's done in MIDI, check to see if you have doubled notes anywhere. That could also cause the phasing I hear.
