Members Badside
I'm almost out the door, going to buy a Roland Octa-Capture to replace my dead Mackie Onyx 400F (which I loooooved until it's untimely demise) after reading Craig's pro review of it
Members Zooey
Looks like the Lexicon may be discontinued, which would be bad news if you are really interested in "future proofing." I don't think there is a significant difference in preamp quality between different makes and models in this class and price range. If you're worried that preamps will hold you back, then you could add a couple of channels of outboard pre down the road. Though you'd probably want to see if any of these units have true line level inputs that don't pass through the mic preamp circuitry.
Members Badside
Yeah, they didn't have the Lexicon anyway, so I ended up with the Octa-Capture. Second time I buy something based on one of Craig's pro-reviews, and I wasn't disappointed last time You can't bypass the preamps in fact, but I figured when I decide to get a high-end channel for critical recording, I'll use the SPIF input anyway. This will also give me 10 inputs, which is more than I need 99% of the time.
Members Zooey
Sounds like a good choice. The Octa-Capture is very highly reviewed. With luck, Roland will be keeping drivers current on that for a long time to come.
