Members LiveMusic
Anyone know anything about this? A clip from one of my original songs... how do I go about making this a ring tone. First, for me, then to sell. Can a phone just import a wav file? Is there a way you can transfer a ringtone from phone to phone? Who sells ringtones? That's how clueless I am. As for selling ringtones, I have no idea how I go about that but my LSU song has as good a shot as anything I'll likely ever do. Any idea? EDIT: Found this... article. I found http://www.phonesherpa.com/ and it looks good but they keep 80% on one plan and the other, they keep 50%. That's unreal.

Members SelenaBassGirl
I am a member of a few ringtone sites, but I managed to upload and send a ringtone of my favorite local band for free on this site: http://www.myxertones.comYou can even choose what part of the song you want sent! I have the first part of my friend's song and also in the middle of the song when it is the instrumental part. You can find ring tones on there-some free and some you have to pay for but most are free. And it is free to be a member too!
CMS Author MikeRivers Posted January 6, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted January 6, 2008 It depends on the phone. My first cell phone (and the one I'd still be using if AT&T didn't make it obsolete) was monophonic and used a variation of a MIDI file. There was a "composer" right on the phone that works kind of like a step entry sequencer but very limited. Newest phones can use WAV files as ring tones, and there's also a polyphonic synth built in that uses a MIDI file. So, the short answer is "it depends." A few people make a lot of money composing and selling ring tones. Most everyone else who fools with it gives them away. Do a Google search for "free ring tones" and you'll find hundreds of resources, along with many annoying pop-up ads with each web site.
