CMS Author MikeRivers Posted November 5, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted November 5, 2008 Hey! Doesn't this board know that Daylight Saving Time is over? Do I have to fix the time zone myself? My computers know about DST, as does my cell phone. Strangely, my GPS, which both knows what time it is and where IT is, doesn't change between standard and daylight time, and it doesn't even change time zones when I travel with it. I guess you only get so much smarts for $100.
Members Jeff da Weasel
Hey! Doesn't this board know that Daylight Saving Time is over? Do I have to fix the time zone myself? Now how is the forum supposed to know that you're in a place that observes Daylight Savings Time? All forums, be they phpBB, VBulletin, or otherwise, base their time settings on the client side, in a relation to GMT, being international in their nature, you silly, silly man. Members Anderton
GMT is God. One must not change time referenced to GMT or the temporal world will implode. Bet you'd feel pretty guilty about that, eh Mike?

CMS Author MikeRivers Posted November 6, 2008 Author CMS Author Share Posted November 6, 2008 Now how is the forum supposed to know that you're in a place that observes Daylight Savings Time? Well, there IS a setting for time zone in the "User CP" section. I have that set for Eastern time so that the time I see on my messages is the same time that I see on my watch (which I'm not nerdy enough to keep on GMT like a friend of mine does). What's missing (unless I missed it) is whether we here in Falls Gulch observe daylight saving time or not. Many computer devices and systems either know that (surely there's a web site that will tell whether Falls Gulch observes DST) or, if I tell it that I do observe DST, it knows when to change the time offset. It must just be a cheap system. I have to change the clock on my wall and in my car and my microwave oven and my telephone but my computers and cell phone know when it's time to change the hour offset.
