Burglary - thank god for racks.

On Tuesday sometime between 930 and 300, our house was broken into in the latest of a sting of burglaries in our area. They pulled apart our gate latch which was padlocked, and kicked in the back door. They made off with 2 laptops, two basses, my girlfriends ESP, an RP-3, a camera and our PS2 and Xbox systems and games. And the damn PS2 had my copy of DT's Score DVD in it. No cash, cards, keys or anything else that we have noticed is missing.

Luckily they didnt get a single piece of either of my giant Ludwigs. I like to think that some of that had to do with the fact that the older kit has locked hardware via drumkey screws for all the hardware, and my other kit is all tightly attached to my rack. Certainly not the quick smash and dash goodies, regardless of their worth.

Still, we are sad and shocked, and have an alarm system on the way and are looking for a dog. And since we dont use the gates much, I have boarded them both shut for now. I will certainly be putting plenty of sensors in our music room, fearing that after they saw the instruments, desktop and stereo system that are just a window smash away from the gate they came it, they might be stupid enough to return.

Just a word to the wise, take plenty of pictures and copy down serial numbers for all of your instruments. Etching your name on them is also a good idea. The basses were too cheap to have serial numbers, but we are waiting to hear back from the store we got the ESP at to see if they have it, as I cant find the reciept.

sorry to hear of your loss

sometimes they will return after a period of time because they wait for the insurance to pay off, and they know all the stuff will be new.

Personally, we had our moving truck stolen. everything including the proof we owned the stuff was in the truck, so I feel for ya.

I'm sorry for your loss. The worst thing about B&E is the feeling of being violated.

My father was an officer, and he used to make us wrap the power cords of all the electronics together with electrical tape. It makes it so that, like your drums, it would take a long time and tools to disassemble.

I own a very large German Shepherd Dog. I would recommend a GSD, but keep in mind that you have to go through lots of classes with it before it is useful as a protection dog. A dog that doesn't have training will not protect your house in any meaningful way. I went through training with my dog, and when I was younger all the GSDs that my father owned went through basic training from the PD before coming to us.

If I didn't have access to the training through my father, I would purchase a dog from these guys. Although, if you know what you are looking for, (calm nerves, even temperment, good hips) then a local GSD rescue would be good as well. Just make sure that the dog goes through training as a protection and/or S&R dog.

The price of a good protection dog is steep during the first year, but it is a worthwhile investment in both companionship and peace of mind.

That's horrible. My house was robbed about a week after I moved all my stuff out (divorce). Thank god. I couldn't handle having my gear stolen. It was still horrible though. Hopefully they'll get the guy. They caught the guy that broke into my house.

Sorry for your loss. been there with a whole trap case worth of hardware. Yeah, they didn't want the big stuff or stuff they couldn't move quickly. Miscellaneous drums usually don't even pawn well. Even though you notified your insurance, notify the police, and the neighbors so they can report nybody who's not familiar in the area. Chances are they won't be back, whehter you had a lot more or not...unless they are VERY stupid.

I'd be thinking your x-wife had something to do with it... :(

i can't believe anyone would steal from other people... it is really sad, my dad is a cop, and does alot of bank robberies, i really hope they catch him, or someone shoots him... god bless texas! (if my girlfriends fender got stolen, i think she would kill me for not putting it in a safe enough place...)

Well her ESP was on its stand in the living room where she practices, they tried to get the little amp too, but left it behind in the middle of the floor for whatever reason. (Not worth much). As much as it sucks, I know they wont get much, all 3 guitars together are worth under $500 new, the RP-3 is very outdated, and one laptop is the one that died on me a couple of weeks back while the other has a dead battery and shows a boot error with the power cable, even though it works fine if you tell it to boot with F1 anyway.

Dont have any guns yet, but Im glad I didnt at this point, as they would probably have them now too. I am planning on getting a decent safe once we do have some firearms, and I can store pricey guitars in it too.

Till then, a motion sensor and camera is going in the studio room, along with some sort of bars for the large window my kit sits next to.

I feel your pain every time I have been vandalized or robed it left me with a pit in my stomach. I would never do anything like this and I will never understand why other people do it. It punishments were more servere a lot on this would be prevented. If you are like me you really don't want the stuff back after its been abused by some crook(s). I don't think there should be anyplace on this Earth for people who do this kind of thing. I certainly have no use for them; and we would all be better off if they were dealt with serverely. Just thinking about this again gets my blood :mad:boiling:mad: I hope one day your crooks get whats comming to them.

that sounds like a good security system. i live in a place where i don't even have to lock my doors, and everything is fine... it's pretty nice.

I live in a small town and I fely the same way once. I hope you never find out differently. It's not always someone from your town that makes it unsafe. The latest that happened to me was about 6 months ago. I got a call from the police office asking about my tags. Apparently a couple of guys were stealing cars and then swapping tags before the cars were reported stolen. My tags were found on an abandoned vehicle in Vegas (thats a long ways from Kansas). Because of lessons I learned the hard way in the past I keep ALL of my vehicles locked and I don't leave any thing valuable in them EVER. My cars are all parked single file up close to the garague so there is only access to the back vehicle. They were not able to steal my truck so they just swapped the tags. You should never assume that you are safe. A small amount of precaution may save you some day. It's worth the inconvenience - trust me.
