Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I'm new here, but have been drumming for almost 9 years. I just got done editing some photos from after my last show. Hope you like my kit. I'll post specs later. *Note* This is a project kit, which I will be adding on to for quite some time. I'll post the specs of the future plans later as well. Enjoy!

Here are my current specs:

22x18 bass drum

14x5.5 snare

16x13 tom

14x11 tom

12x9 tom

10x8 tom

8x8 tom

10x3.5 piccolo tom

10x3.5 piccolo tom

6x7 piccolo tom

Cymbals:

14" Zildjian K Mastersound Hi-Hats

22" Zildjian K Ride

8" Avedis Zildjian Splash

14" Avedis Zildjian Thin Crash (I use it as a low pitched splash)

18" Zildjian K Dark Crash Medium Thin

18" Zildjian K Dark Crash Thin

Custom made 16" Wuhan China Stack

Hardware:

Pearl Eliminator Belt Drive

Pearl Eliminator Hi-Hat Stand

Pearl ICON Curved Front Rack

Various other Pearl and Mapex stands

Accessories:

Toca Players Series Cowbell (on the left foot)

I feel like posting pictures now, so I'll explain my tunings later.

Here's my concept drawing of the future kit. The only cymbals in this are the hi hats, because I had to get my tom layout worked out in that area.

Here is my pedal layout. I'm not sure in what order the accessories will be, but all that's listed will be there for sure.

drums001.jpg

And here's an updated pic I did on dw kitbuilder. It doesn't have any cymbals, and they don't have 6" toms, djembes, congas, and bongos as options, so bear with me as I update this to an accurately sized drawing.

This post has got to be long, so I'll post the future specs here in a bit.

Stay tuned!

dude, screw blastbeats. I'm into ostinatos and melodic drumming (I play a lot of rock too). That's why I'm getting a lot of pedals; for foot based ostinatos.

WTF?? with all those pedals you cold play like NINE blastbeats SIMULTANEOUSLY!!! come ON!

We have good weed out here in Colorado too.

HA!

Seriously though, that set looks good. And it looks like you have taken the time to get to "know" your gear. I would actually really like to hear how those Aquarians sound... you running the same batter / reso? Interesting...

What kind of gig was this? Looks like a pretty sizable venue, but no other instruments? or did you get there early like a good drummer and get all setup before the axe slingers could stake claims?

OP implies he left them setup *after* the show to get pics once the stage was cleared. That's a nice looking kit and a great venue for pics (and no doubt playing).

That's quite a few drums but for the styles you mention, I suppose they are justified. I'd just hate to have to setup and tear down that kit as often as I gig.

I'm a little confused at how you plan to play the small kick drum with the pedal beneath the floor tom.

I'm really trying hard not to get involved in this thread.

It would be like a guy who's drunk himself within an inch of his life telling someone else they're drinking too much.

But...dude...you're drinking too much...and...kettle, you're black.

Here's my kit diagram...(also Mapex, by the way):

What did you do to your Wuhan? It looks funky

That was more of an experiment than anything else. I had two broken wuhan chinas, 18" and 16". The 18" I had already cut the one side off to clear it of cracks and such, but it sounded like crap and was awkward to hit. The 16" was cracked like hell, as you can see, and was pretty much useless to me. One day I was like, hey I'm gonna stack these. I had to cut the bell off of the 16" with a grinder. Once I did that, I popped three rivets in to secure them, and voila! I had an awesome sounding china trash stack. It's got the great wuhan china sound, with a really nice attack and short decay, like a pair of hi-hats about 1/3 of the way open. I stuck it on my kit cause it sounded so good. It's unique, that's for sure.

How much $ has/will this project cost?

No offense, but I'm tired of people asking this. Who cares about how much the kit costs. It's all about the drummer who sits behind it and utilizes what's there.

I'm heading off to college this fall, so I'm destined to be short on cash for a while. I'll be adding to it as I get the money from now until a long time in the future. My teacher is selling a bunch of stuff soon like cowbells, woodblocks, snare drums, stuff like that, so I may have some updates soon.

Congratulations on starting a great looking project. The photos are taaaaaaasty! :thu:

I'd love to hear the kit used in context. I'm sure you'll get many Bozzio comparisons, but as you said, it's the drummer, not the drums!

I'm not arguing about the fact that it's the drummer, not the kit that matters, I was simply curious how much it's costing you. No need to be a jerk about it :freak:

If you knew my parents, you wouldn't have said that. They support my music, as they are musicians also, but they haven't put a dime towards my drums in any way.

If you really want to know, I've put almost $4000 into my setup, and it'll take another $4200 to get the rest you can see, plus cymbals.

post some clips there, Mr. Man! We've seen the hat, now let's smell the cowboy...

I'm working on some right now, maybe I'll post them, maybe I won't. The sarcasm and all-around assholeness of the people on this forum make me not want to.
