Can anybody explain this technique?

I don't know how much you guys really follow corps and DCI and whatnot, but check out this solo. He does...something... at 58 seconds that is just completely beyond my how he got that to work. I can't even figure it out a slow tempo. I'd imagine learning this would be a real cool technique not only for rudimental and marching percussion, but would make a SWEET addition to a solo on the kit. So, yeah, anyone able to figure this one out?

Looks like he's using both ends of the stick to graze out a roll. The figure and articulation are probably a by product of the way he forces it.

Just to be critical - well you know how I am, note how all the one handed finger rolls drag. I don't know why they do this. Even Buddy Rich displayed the same problem. It undermines the shock factor of all the moeller dohickies and gravity rolls. Definitely not a winning performance this one. I give it a C-. lol...
