Members mraia1
Whats the story with Pacific Maple kits? Are they as good as they seem? I was looking at a Gretsch Catalina Maple, but I've heard some negatives, like they have a tendency to go out of tune easily. How do the Pacific Maple kits stack up? Members the DW
The only experience I have with a Pacific maple kit is one that a local sound company uses. Just so happens that I was the very first one to play on it when they first bought it several years ago. It sounded REAL nice. Then sometime in 2007, I got to play it again. It looked like it had been used a LOT in between my sessions, but it still sounded real nice. for what it's worth.
Members slap happy drums
I play one at work (CX) that I plan to buy once they get around to replacing it.Decent kit , nothing flashy , but sounds good and is easy to tune and setup. Members Mogwix
Awesome kits for the money. There is a slight tendancy for the heads to go out of tune, but I would rank that tendancy about on par with other kits in the price range. Sound and finish are great though, my kit sounds great and the hardware is very good. If you're in the market for a mid-level drum kit, IMO pacific is the way to go. The hardware gives it the edge in this market though, for me, the DW suspended mounts are awesome.
Members DW_Man_TX
I agree, awesome kits for the money. I gigged four times a month for 6 months with a CX kit and I loved it.

Members Majoria
I play a birch Pacific since I prefer birch but the maples are great as well. The Gretsch is a close second for me.

Members cearleywine
Hey Dan, I work with an old woman named Carol. She's very dumb and often annoys me, well sometimes I call her care hole behind her back. Have you ever been called care hole before? Sometimes I think I'm going to slip and say it to her face. Members Cross Eyed Mary
They're decent. I noticed rough edges from time to time. The Platinums sounded identicle to the LX's and whatnot. I'd say they're good kits, but not my personal taste. They lacked a certain warmth i like, at least with the stock heads. If you look hard enough you can do better for the price. Members Cross Eyed Mary
I've seen a vintage slingerland on the local craiglist pop up ritualistically every few months by the same owner, $300. If you wait and save, you'll find it. Sorry, but i'm going to have to side with a vintage Slingy. The cheapest pacific maple kit can be found on sale (new) for $600. I bought the renown 3 ply tone for $500.

Members Cross Eyed Mary
Okay, so add another $50. We're at an even price now. Even tone? Doubtful. You catch my drift.

Members mraia1
. Love 'em. Those are beauties. What I'm hearing here is that for less than a thousand bucks, I can get a maple kit thats relatively high quality that sounds good. h

I've been kicking around the idea of picking up a set on the cheap if they pop up on the craigs.
