Members D Carroll
Sabian has a deal going on right now when you buy one of the aax packs, you get a free shell pack. http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Sabian-AAX-Stage-Performance-Set-with-Free-Gretsch-Black-Widow-Shell-Pack?sku=484876
Members faileddrummer
I'm a Sabian guy after learning Zildjians and Sabians are made by the same family. For the punk sound, I would say you're looking for the AAX Stage. Punk is a real basic beat filled with slightly open hi hat to make it sound more full. The AAX's are my favorite to get that nice, loud sound.
Members JMR
I'd go sabian. But I'm also a zildjhater

Members Shawn76
Get what your ears like. I myself use Sabian AAX crashes only, use a Sabian 21" RBDR, 2 18" Zildjian Chinas and Paiste hats.I like the mix and bought them because of how they sounded.I am looking to add another 16" AA Xplosion Crash to my setup soon. Members JMR
Paiste? I would've said this, but he said sabian and zildjian, so I assumed he wasn't open to other brands

Everyone hears each cymbal differently.

Or maybe I'm just used to music store employee pricing... The way I see it, don't buy a pack if you've got the money. You'll generally do better hand picking which cymbals you want. Otherwise, go with the HHX pack if you're looking for quality. Or go with the AAX pack with the free Gretsch and flip either that or your old set for a good deal. Otherwise, XS20 pack all the way. Costs less than the AAX with a ton of cymbals and almost sounds as good (same as AA/AAX but without machine hammering). Then you can slowly replace those with hand hammered or boutique cymbals as time goes on. The one thing I don't like about these packs is that when they come with multiple crashes, it's always the same on in different sizes. Boring, and definitely less expressive that way. Members cearleywine
IMO you can't go wrong with the a's or armands, but I highly recommend shopping used..
Members JohnCav
Go used. If that is not an option then that XS20 isnt a bad deal. With used though, you can get cheaper deals and handpick what you what. Check around on ebay, although I highly recommend hearing them in person. Members lossforgain
I think for the sound you'll want, the AAXs will be best, although XS20 is a good option for less cash.

Paiste's are my personal favorites. I know Danny Carey, Nicko McBrain and Lombardo use Paiste. Im not sure thats the way Its always been, but the last time I saw they did. Brandon Barnes, Anthony Biuso, Jason Finn, John Kelly, and The Rev are all endorsed by Sabian. But it IS all personal choice.
