Not that I'm complaining....but dang I'm working by butt off right now! I'm playing with 2 bands, something I never thought I'd do....but, I've given up. Everyone else in Shreveport is playing with 2-3-4 bands, not staying dedicated to one so I figured if ya can't beat them......

My "dedicated" band is the host band at a local club every Wed. They are a great group of guys, BUT, they aren't going anywhere. The lead player is one of the best I've ever worked with, has over 20 years playing on Bourbon St and touring nationwide, but his attitude has gotten him kicked out of 3 different venues, so can book very little with him. Plus, this is his side project and he never seems to be available.....

My second project was originally just a fill in position, but when I couldn't make a Wed. recording session, due to my main gig, they quit calling me....Long story short, their drummer was running off the other members, so they had to fire him and asked if I would play full time. I accepted, but ONLY under the understanding that I AM NOT available Wed. night, which they say they under stood.....we'll see!

My third project is a fill in type gig, that got it's roots from my Wed. night gig....since it's an open mic, I have had several other people try to hire me out after I sat in with them and was able to hang, even with their original material. Just shows that opening your mind up to different genres helps. I've learned whole new worlds of music since moving to Louisiana (different jazz, blues, funk, zydeco styles) that I would have never considered before......I've got 4 gigs booked with different bands on the books now!

It's a great feeling to have other musicians tell you how good they think you are and that you're better than just about anyone else they've played for! With all this work, my newly endorsed Soultone cymbals will be getting their money's worth of exposure!

And to think that my 6th grade music teacher said I didn't have the coordination to play the drums.....
