Members schecterc1lh
Hi all, i am pretty new to drumming, and i just switched to playing with a lefty setup. I am trying to get my left foot up to speed, and i was wondering if you know of any good exercise that i can do to help that, other than simply practicing. I especially have problems on things that are drawn out for a while, much like this from 3:48 on: [video=youtube;o_6JQDsbtlM]
Members Carminemw
Another lefty....welcome to the dark side!!! If you can read, pick up Colin Bailey's Bass Drum Control...it'll put that kick anywhere it wants to go...has endurance exercises and tricky articulations as well...starts off easy and gradually builds to multiple bass drum beats put anywhere. If you only read a little, Pick up George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control and play the left hand parts with the left foot instead...
Members 1001gear
Practice long notes first of all. Whole notes for instance. You step on 'em and then what? Stand there? Release and wait for the next note? These are all factors that effect your playing. The pedal is a machine. It only has the setting it's on and you have to be familiar with what it does and what you need to do to get to the music. Anyway, the part you want is pretty easy on my setup. With max tension and by playing on the back half of the pedal, that part becomes a compound thing very similar to a two for one Moeller stroke. It's not very difficult but might be a bit ahead of you.
Members schecterc1lh
Yeah, i am getting there just by practicing, but if i can get a better understanding of the technical side, it can only help. My problem is i always end up speeding up faster than the song, and then i am screwed once i start doing that.
Members D Carroll
switch your set up from right to left, challenge yourself as much as possible. Obviously, spend more time playing however you play, but change it up. I will sometimes just swap hats, and snare over to the other side, ditch the toms and other cymbals, and force myself to hold a left handed beat. Members schecterc1lh
The pedal. What kind, how have you set it up? Its an iron cobra, so it is not it fault, i just need to get better lol. I would much rather get better than try to fix my sucking with better gear anyhow, you know what i mean?
