Members The Villano Dude
Just saw him at the Spirit in NYC... I am a sort of music/traditionalist so I am still caught up in tho whole "is it really music?" question but I danced 'til 7 in the morning and enjoyed the show...anyhow, what's the opinion on him around here? Maybe I should mention I am also into DJ Tiesto...
Members eatsdrummachine
hey, TVD. never heard of armin van buuren. I'd bet it's music though. if it sounds musical it must be music IMO:). you might get some response on this. but the DJ forum runs at a fairly relaxed pace. so I've noticed. hope it's all good with you, /jonny
Members The Villano Dude
yeah I hear you man. I try to take it easy...y'know, it's true that it's music and all but sometimes it's difficult to consider a DJ in the same page as say a pianist in the whole difference between say innovator/inventor. Very similar but a few details separate them. Not trying to dis' anyone though..just my opinion and not to say i don't like DJ's...like I said, I will dance the whole night to one and enjoy myself to the limit! Thanks for the reply... Members eatsdrummachine
hmmm. dj can be so many things. from 'disc jockey' on a radio station. a person who plays songs at a party or club. or someone who manipulates/mixes different sound sources together (beat matching, mashing, etc.). I don't look at the first two as 'musicians' per se. and the third I suppose for me would depend on the nature of the material and how it's created. the third most definately requires a sense of music---I consider that to be an ability. at some point I don't think definitions matter---it requires talent to innovate and I certainly have much respect for anyone who scours through tons of material to find what will get people excited and/or dancing. but DJ was a term used to describe people who spin records on radio shows. so maybe we just need a new term: turntablist? softwarist? songwriter? whatever- eh? /jonny
Members Vas
Armin has a huge number of quality tracks and remixes under his belt, so he's got a lot more talent than just playing other people's vinyl.
Members Monkey Mouse
I have a lot of armin Van Buuren's songs (both original productions & remixes) and have to say this his vocal trance songs are second to none. Tiesto might have the "bigger" name (and his trance remixes are all awesome), he doesn't have the ability to put out the vocal songs like Armin can. Members gruvjack
First track I heard was "Touch Me, Feel Me" around '99?. I've been a fan ever since. V.
Members The Villano Dude
Touche... Whether it's music or not, I enjoy it... I just sometimes have these questions because I was raised by 2 Classicaly trained musicians who were into traditional ways, etc. Either way, seeing van buuren live is one of the most eventfull experiences for me so far...
