Hey I'm a singer(obviously!) for going on 5 months now, with four years of intensive guitar experience. I'm a tenor with a pretty wide range... can go higher then I can lower (only as low as baritone basses but not as low as basses) and can sing up in the soprano range with head voice. I don't know how to sing falsetto. I first learned to sing (first time I've ever sang really in my life) in my voice class at the start of last semester. As you can probably imagine, I had trouble matching the pitch I was hearing in my head with my voice. Well eventually I got over that, and for the most part can match pitch 100% of the time.

I was recruited into the show/jazz choir (second only to gold company((please say you've heard of them!)) ) and now sing tenor in that. Needless to say I immersed myself in order to grow fast.

I stumbled upon this site tonight and thought what better way to spend time outside of class/practice talking about the voice and vocal technique. A band of brothers (and sisters :p ) who have the same goals and trials as myself. So here I am.

I've mainly been being trained in the opera style of singing. While I do love it and it has it's place my true passion lies with metal and pop punk vocals. Some of the singers I enjoy in this style are; Craig Owens, Vic Fuentes, Johnny Craig, Kellin Quinn, Tyler Carter, Alex Gaskarth, ETC ETC!!!

My goal is to be able to sing in those high registers, WITHOUT THE FULL RICH TONE OF MY OPERATIC VOICE! I'm finding it extremely difficult to sing in this style. Don't get me wrong, I want a rich beautiful tone sound... but not to sound like opera...

Some of my struggles with this goal is the complete hatred of the tone of my voice, singing in my neck when attempting this style, and having complete control over the notes in this style (probably due to my neck singing and raised larynx....)

Well now that I've told you all about me... tell me about you guys. I hope to learn and teach a lot on these forums so we can all grow to reach our goals. Wow, I'm starting to sound lame... lol...

Anyways, anyone care to fill me in about the generally understood things around these parts? Or is it pretty easy going :).

Adios amigos,

Mef.
