Okay, I just wanted to know if it is just my neck that shrinks when I go into head voice.

It happens at the upper part of my neck, looking at me from the front its about were my neck meets my jaw line.

Its probably me and my horrid technique, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks...^_^...

Um…I don’t know. Are you tensing your voice when you go into head voice? Maybe you’re moving your head in a weird way, or perhaps more likely, your larynx is lifting up and it’s giving the appearance of your neck shrinking. Otherwise, I have no idea!!

Thanks, I thought I was doing it wrong. So now I know I have work to do.

OH!, and my larynx does rise unfortunately. I heard that should be doing scales with mum and gug to fix that (I will sound soooooo retarded to my bros). But I cant get a dopey sound in head voice.

Does anyone else have a problem with dopey sounds in headvoice?

hmmmm.....How?? Is the first thing that popped into my head. Could you post a vid on how you did that so I may learn your way of accessing head voice. It's obviously better than mine.^_^

The vid only just finished loading. My internet is soooooooooooooo slow.

Anyway, this doesnt really help as my larynx is still rising when i go into head voice.

Try to sing a higher note with the back area of your mouth fully open, like you are yawning. Or like you are a bullfrog with a big sack of air in the back area. Expand that area and keep the throat open. When you hit a high note like that, it's head voice.

aaaaarrrrrggggghhh!!

My throat keeps closing up the moment i make a sound. I can do the note but its not pleasant, at all.

My voice is soooo frustrating. Here are all these people tryin to help it and it just wont let itself be helped. Hmph!!

Open the back of your mouth and throat, and sing a higher note...but do it quietly and relazed. It does not need to be loud. Volume might be why you are tightening your throat.

It takes time to learn how to tell the vocal chords to zip up and make those head voice notes. The reason the gug and goog excercises work is because they help you stop and start the air flow, helping you not get louder as you go up in range.

Thanks. My throat isn't closing as much now but my larynx is still rising. So there are still some unresolved problems.

I wouldn't call them unresolved problems. You just haven't trained your voice how to do it yet.

hmmm.....I guess we should call them resolutions in the making.^_^. I still have overly tense muscles holding my vocal cords and stopping any form of vibrato. So that, unfortunately, would be an unresolved problem.

Could you post a video of you in head voice?

Seems to me like you expect all this to happen at a snap of a finger. This takes knowledge, practice and time. If you want to become efficient in your head register, you embark on the journey and have patience.

My advice to you is to start lightly, in falsetto, without any tention what-so-ever.

Can I butt in and ask something?

I have major issues doing head voice I THINK. Maybe. I am ok down low. Then as I get even a bit higher (not very high at all), I feel my throat closing up and I use this weird non-voice. And it sounds bad and soft. But then as I get higher, I find it easy and feel my throat opening more. What is going on in the middle areas there!?

Sorry about that. I kinda forgot that the vocal chords need to be trained over a period of time for their muscle memory to work. I probably had this reaction because the last time I asked for help with my head voice the solution that was given to me was more-or-less instant. Are you saying I should do the exact same thing in falsetto? Now that I think about it. That should work since I'm trying to train throat muscles, not my vocal chords. THAT I can do easily all day long.People on this forum are sooooooo unbelievably helpful. Thanks everybody.^_^.

A poor mix voice (between head and chest)

OR

It's falsetto, and you go into head on higher notes.

Here's a video of a demonstration of my problematic head voice.

Yeah, that's headvoice.

I'm gonna post a video demonstrating that yawny thing at some point.

You could try imagining a see-saw when you go up.

Imagining the see-saw going up at the back of your head, and going down at the front.. it works for me (I'm trying to develop whistle voice atm and it works well)

Heh. I definetly think I found my head voice, then. It sounds similar to the verses of the first like, 40 seconds

And someone on another forum suggested the yawning thing, which looks really silly. I call it the "deep throat" technique, because I look like I could shove a cucumber in my freaking big mouth.

The begining of a yawning sensation is more about arching the back of the throat, and not about dropping the jaw that much. The clips sounds like you're opening your mouth but your throat is still constricted.
