The purpose of the news is to sell advertising. If any actual news items happen to slip in, hooray. And if any facts are included in those items, all the better. Unfortunately news networks don't report what's important, they report what people like to watch.

I don't care either. I really don't need pop singers to think for me. But the media has to talk about something. God forbid they go out and find a real story.
