Iāve had the J-45 and Southern Jumbo for a few months now, love the J-45, like the SJ. Ā Neck comfort better on the J-45, and the sound..just a lot different than the standard. Ā Iāll keep it, SJ will go consignment at Daveās I think.
Martin Authentic 1939 D-18, aged, not aged, another one with a great neck, 1-11/16ā, and again, sound very different than standard. Ā This is on the radar, but the SJ and maybe 0-18 will fund it. Ā If I can find one under 5K, rare but possible.

Jim? Ā Jim? Ā Mr. Pulos? Ā This thing onā¦?

And you have Santa Cruz Parabolic Tension Strings, expensive little wires (didnāt sound good on my old 00-17) developed I believe by Roger Siminoff. Ā Speaking of, heās got Straight Up Strings, same concept, half the cost of those Santa Cruz, and theyĀ doĀ sound good on my old 00-17, plus J-45, and 000-28. Ā Itās possible Iām just allergic to expensive though.
Āso thereās that! Ā But Iām not an artist, thus not an artist endorsementā¦and Scott wants to welcome you to the Stringjoy Family, Roger doesnāt even mention family in his āaboutā page, the heathen. Ā But heās 5$ cheaper, so letās go worship trees.

Iām a bit late, you most likely have a guy, but Iād ask at the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum, I think they know every good luthier in every state.

Maybe lock these old threads and make the first posters start their own? Ā Itās a thought. Ā Although oneĀ guy put up his first this week thinking the forum was the returns department..
I had a Morris F style mandolin once, it was a beaut.

Iām sorry, I canāt take it right now.

Hello there HC Forum Members!
I'm writing today seeking for some advice regarding classical guitars.
I'm looking to purchase a guitar for studying classical guitar at my university. Many of us know that a classical guitar is shaped like thisĀ /forum/filedata/fetch?id=30940588&d=1393212512
That means no cutaways, and no preamps on ''good'' classical guitars. Coming from an electrical & acoustic background (steel strings), this is a blow for me. I really desire to improve my guitar skills and get the best out of studying music education at university, but I would also like a lifetime guitar investment.
I have tried various guitars in my area and the ones I like the most, have cutaways. Is this ''WRONG'' for studying classical music or can you do it? I'm also leaning towards a Cordoba GK Studio Negra. Can I use a guitar like it to study classical guitar in my university? Supposely some people have managed to study here with cutaways, but having a tradionalist strict instructor I don't know if it's really a choice.
What can you recommend me? I would like it to have a preamp for plugged in use*
Please guide me in this purchase decision.
Oldest I could find to dredge up. Ā Hope itās not agin th roolsā¦

Well, I have a Carlos Black Beauty Les Paul copy. I think the pick ups have been exchanged for some boutique onesĀ don't know what they are. I've dressed the frets and got the action pretty good.Ā To be honest, it's a great guitar to play.Ā
Can't find any info on this model at all.
See? Ā Thereās hope! Ā 9 in a row since last time. Ā This HAS to be the longest 1-poster conversation in the bunch. Ā
ĀThank you, Carlos!

Gib, I'm laughing because I've been saying that for the last three years....
We are running on fumes, zero admin support, ad revenues somehow keep the lights on, and there are a handful of moderators [4, actually] keeping the peace while waiting for the flame to be blown out.
He sez 5 days laterš¤£. But hey, that 1942 Gibson Custom Shop J-45, Southern Jumbo, ā34 Jumbo, Advanced Jumbo, J-35, take your pick, these are some of the best things coming out of the guitar world today.
I would encourage anyone reading to seek one out and play it. Ā

But hey, it was nice having this discussion, thank you all for saying your piece. Ā
-
This is good. Ā Nice work.

SEE?!?!Ā
My gosh. Ā Thereās hope for my Gibson post above if I wait 16 years? Ā Jesus, I may be dead, but life goes on. Ā Encouraging in a twisted way.
And thank you @garthmanĀ for keeping hope alive. Ā How are things in the UK? Ā Is it sunny or still dull and wet. Ā It is here. Ā Spring sucks this year. Ā It just friggingĀ poured and we have snow in the forecast tomorrow..
-
@daddymack -Oh, you laughā¦.š¤£. Well, gotta admit, me too. Ā All guitar talk seems to be AGF or the UMGF. Ā thereās..what..3 guys that keep an eye on sh** here, and donāt contribute. Ā WHICH, I might add, Iām one. Ā I donāt either, so my bad.
But thereās hope! Ā In 5 or 6 years, someone will ask a question in THIS VERY TOPIC, STARTED BY MOI, as theirĀ first post!

Man, I think Political Party is keeping Harmony Central going. Ā Not just my post, but feck, all the topics here.
Ā
A name change is in order, Political DisHarmony Central maybe?

ĀHavenāt been wowed by a guitar in ages, played some of these and Iām a convert. Ā Now I just need the moneyā¦
Yeah, Gibson has always played fast and loose with their specs, these are pretty close. Ā I think the J-35 I played weighed in around 4#, all of them very light, and each one just had that sound youād expect from a 4-5K guitar.

Itās a product of the internet age, canāt find one to play, but dig the look, buy it, sell it. Ā Or eat return shipping. Ā I ended up taking a 200$ loss.
Itās not that it was a dog or uncomfortable, it played nice, sounded ok, just didnāt do it, maybe because it was trying to be a Gibson.
Ā
Speaking of, I have had opportunity to test the new Gibson Historics, 1942 Banner SJ, 34 Jumbo, the Advanced Jumbo and 36 J-35. Ā I think the torrified tops make a huge difference, those are special, AND rather pricey. Ā Havenāt played the 42 Banner J-45 yet.

Got one, sold one, donāt have one.
nice guitar, comfortable neck, decent sound, didnāt love. Ā

Lol, thereāsĀ plentyĀ of criticism on Martins there. Ā Judging by ākodokandronāsā post above, itās not the criticism, but the inability to be a civil person.

Itās basically Chris Martin thumbing his nose at Gibson. That said, Martinphiles love them. Iāve never played one; I prefer my Martins to look like Martins. Give me a 00-18V over that.
As for discounts post COVID? The days of 40% off MSRP are over. The price listed is the price. The best Iāve heard of is 15% off.Ā
Yeah, list is 2799, Elderly offered free shipping.. yep, those days are done for now. Ā Well, on the plus side, I have 2 Nationals on consignment that I wonāt be out on, and the shop has one coming in, so win/win.
Iām of the opinion that itās sort of an homage to the L-00, at least that was the impression I got from an interview with CFM. Ā Already have a 00-17, love the look of the Gibson, but never liked how the neck felt or the sound. Ā CEO ticks the boxes!

Hey, off subject a bit, but how long has the place been nearly deserted? Ā No offense or troll intended.

you mean the 'golden-era Gibson design as the inspiration for a vintage Martin that never existed'?
Never even saw one...
Ha, no the CEO-7, homage to the L-00. Ā You should see one, very nice guitar in the looks category, have only heard a bunch of YouTubes, and havenāt played one yet. Ā

Buehler? Ā Buehler?

Getting the jones on for one. Ā 2799 list, are discounts still a thing?

I don't recall there being an assigned Moderator in the AG forum for many years [at least a decade]...which was why I asked.
Then...maybe it was a cry for more moderation?
