Sure, just pack dick sandwiches into their lunchbox. This will go over well and make their confidence stronger! poke.gif

I just don't want you kids to have to grow up and struggle the way I did...

My girl was playing with a toy. A boy came over and asked if he could play with the toy. She wanted it still so she said, "no you may not." This, from a 3 year old (well, almost 4).

The boy started whimpering. His mom starts asking him, "well what could she say instead." Instead!? INSTEAD!? What the holy hell do you want out of a 3 year old?!

What I've noticed is that people seem to think the use of "may" is too strong. Had she just said, "no." That probably would have been fine. "You may not," just seems to be something strongly worded for too many people.

Then there was another time where the mom wanted an apology because her kid's feelings were hurt. My wife went along with it because she had done something wrong but.... I told her we don't correct or admonish on feelings hurt. We do it when our daughter does something wrong.

    I agree.

If my daughter was a budding Church Lady, I would encourage the hell out of it!! biggrin.gif

But then there's stories like my mom kicking a guy in the balls in high school because he kept... I forget if it was kicking her shins or what but he was bugging the hell out of her and she'd had enough wink.gif

Well, shucks. I was hoping there was much mirth to be had in a story of the niomosy family lining up for jimmy-kicks on, well, niomosy. confused.gif

Hm. Daddy have a story for us? biggrin.gif

You and me both. I've had an inhuman amount of stuff to do at work or related to work. Right now, stuff is just sliding until our current all-hands-on-deck task is done.

In other news, I'm enjoying a Radeberger after aikido training."

Zamfir, I totally respect your aikido training. If we were civilized, big sticks would rule. When big sticks are outlawed only criminals will have big sticks. I seriously carry one in some situations. Sorry about the flippant "trying to top 100" posts. Thanks for your reply.

Your work situation "herding cats" resonates with me. Project management is tough when you are charged with herding cats, but worse, when you are to make eagles perch in a row on a calendar. Befriend the strongest cat, who will bring the others in line much to their inconvience. Keep treats in sight and dispense along the way when you must. thumb.gif

My reply was actually flippant... biggrin.gif Post-whoring in TK is frequent, and thus not serious... biggrin.gif

As for the strongest cat...that person is my biggest obstacle, mentioned above, who saddled us with a hell of a problem...

I have no idea how to neutralize that person, or even if they can be. frown.gif

  10. Oh, and you remember the senior person whom I traded a bit of tense barbs with a month or so ago?

They made me chairman of the board of the support association, because no one else would step up (and I hesitated to...). Then, as soon as the new officers were elected, said senior person dropped a huge bomb in our laps involving closing down a large chunk of our association's operations that affects around a dozen jobs. That decision was made by power centers totally outside the Board's control, but on whom we depend for our charter, including the influence of said senior person with whom I have differences.

Now I'm herding cats, many of whom are pissed off (including me), while I bite my tongue trying to be the voice of moderation. And I'm not paid for any of this crap, although it cuts into my work time heavily. And my stress level just zoomed upwards from the "Zamfir, your normal life is not exactly stress-healthy" point.

    Gah.

Full disclosure requires me to point out that I pretty much dislike eggnog. facepalm.gif

I like it for being a funny word, though.

For the most part I try to stay out of it and someway or another I get dragged into it. It sure as hell is really f*cking annoying.

Halloween (and the parties revolving around it) on the other hand are fantastic.thumb.gif

Ask for more eggnog every time somebody annoying in your family talks to you.

"So Super Donut Man, what'd you get me for Christmas?"

    "...got any more eggnog?"

"It's so nice you could come down this year..."

"Yeah, it is. Got any more eggnog?"

"Can't you come sit out here with us and be with the rest of the family?"

    "Sure, on one condition."

    "What's that?"

    "Got any more eggnog?"

"You be nice to your sister!!"

"Ok. That's gonna require a {censored}load of eggnog...."
