I picked up an Audio-Technica AT3035 on eBay recently for about $75. It was new, in the box, just unwrapped. Possibly used once. at2020, 3035, 4040 aren't bad if you pick them up at that kind of price.

Anyhow, once I recognized the old problem returning, I made a concerted effort to start enjoying music again for its own sake instead of continually peeling apart the sound of every new song on the radio and every new record... I'm still peeling

For $100 on an acoustic guitar, I'd rather have an AT2020 than an SM57. You'll get a much more even frequency response and a lot more high end. Agreed. Dont forget your preamp!
