I prefer the fact that it flows better and forms a physically stronger connection. I also suspect that a lot of my preference comes from the fact that most of my soldering is modifying my Hi0Fi equipment, where a small improvement in sound quality is clearly noticable. Members Mr Songwriter Posted March 29, 2009 Members Share Posted March 29, 2009 I've used both Lead free (the new stuff) and 60/40, the 60/40 has a lower melting point so it's much easier to get it to flow, but as has been pointed out, if your soldering iron is hot enough and you've get reasonably good technique (i.e. waiting til the bit is hot enough and applying it correctly) you shouldn't have a problem getting a good joint with the lead free stuff.
