Members Burningleaves
IIRC I read someplace that Angus has been known to use a vintage, P-90 equiped, SG Jr. in the studio.
Members jkay
They are just so rock and roll. Something to be said for keeping it simple. And the reason Angus originally settled on the SG was so that he could easily access the whole fretboard. These guys have a lot of common sense. Members Staredge
I want to add that this fact is just another reason why AC/DC is awesome. ^this.
Members lukeswall
Angus uses late 70's Marshall JMP MkII 2203 100w amps with the gain turned all the way up for large concerts with following settings: Presence = 5 Bass = 10 Mids = 4 Treble = 8 Gain = 6 or 7 Volumn = 7 to 10 wat? Members lukeswall
from that interview, talking about malcolm: Musician.com: What does Malcolm use? Banks: [...]He uses heavy gauge Gibson strings, .012 to .056. Musician.com: Any pedals or effects? Banks: No. He's got the Samson wireless just like Angus. It comes out of the guitar into that. I've got a four-way A/B box because Malcolm pops a lot of strings. He plays with a heavy Fender pick and he basically wears them away. He goes through about 40 or 50 picks a night, and he'll sometimes dig in and pop an A or D string, usually the D. So I've always got three spare guitars wired up and ready to go. the guy wears 50 picks a night and pops 12s like they're nothing?? that's crazy! Members DaveAronow
I'm dissapointed this thread hasnt become a Brian Johnson vrs Bon Scott blowout battle yet. I didnt know it was possible to discuss anything having to do with AC/DC without it deteriorating to that. Hope I could help.
Members Angry Tele
AC/DC has always been straight into the amp. what rock have you been under? Obviously not a hard rock lol wah pedal? wtf are you smoking? He also doesn't use a chorus pedal, a violin bow, an ebow, etc; Bon Scott FTW
Members McHale
Bon Scott FTW Well, duh. Who could intelligently argue any differently? -Mc

Members BarfLender
Its good to know that i have a commonality with one of my favorite guitarists. No effects, and what ever pick ups are in the axe.
Members ExiledCrow
This is why they're the very definition of a strait-up hard rock band!
Members V-Type
The only effects I hear on any AC/DC song's is either vocal eq'ing and reverb. Nada for the guitars. However I wonder if Angus uses/used a clean lead boost or just simply uses his guitars volume controls for his leads.

I used to think he used a compressor cuz he gets a lot of sustain and seperation of notes in a chord but I think its the nature of the amp. Listen to Overdose. Members LesPaulCustom79
Angus never changes the stock pickups in any of his guitars. Yes, Angus uses the stock pickups in his Gibson Custom Angus SG's, but the stock pickups are HOT as {censored}!!!
Members LesPaulCustom79
Somewhere I read that Angus has one 70's Marshall 4x12 1960B cabinet sitting under the stage pushed by a dimed vol. Marshall 100w and that what is miked to the P.A.

Members LesPaulCustom79
I saw a video of AC/DC on You Tube from a mid 70's Australian T.V. show and Angus and Malcolm were both using Orange OR-120 "pics only" amps and 4 Orange 4x12 cabs each. It blew my mind because I thought they always used Marshalls. When I went to look for it later, the video had been removed.
Members LesPaulCustom79
I saw a photo of Malcolm with old Mesa Boogie 4x12 stacks with the wire front grills sitting behind him. Did AC/DC in fact use Mesa amps at one time during the early 80's and for how long? It must not have been for very long.
Members BeerBaron
Angus never changes the stock pickups in any of his guitars. +1 on that. Saw an interview, and from what he mentioned in it. He doesn't like changing the pickups in any of his guitars. He said something about that it takes away from the original tone of the guitar *shrugs*. Course no one can be 100% sure.

Yeah, I thought that was wierd too but have heard that all those Orange amps were supplied by the show....like all the artists that appeared would use them. I think the Donington 1991 dvd has a bunch of Mesas in it, for sure cabs, not sure about amps. I have also seen them use Wizard amps too. Maybe they were using the Wizard heads and Mesa cabs. ***edit*** Marshall cabs are in the Donington 91 show as well as the Mesas.

The video with the Oranges can be found in the Plug Me In box set; the house always kept a full backline of Oranges for the artists that played there. And of course they have always run straight into the amp. How is that even a question?
