How do they compare to a Standard strat p-up or TexMex pups. splain me...a non-tone freak Well the Standard ( MIM) has a Ceramic pickup ( Not so good IMO)The Tex mex is a grittier, Higher output Alnicoand the Classic 60s has a vintage voiced Alnico pickup

Members cratz2
I'm a long time single coil fan... My take is this. The American Standards are good, solid pickups. If you like Fender single coils through a Fender amp, then they sound great. But if you play something like the Duncan Antiquities or the Fender CS54s through a good Fender amp, then switch to an American Standard with stock pickups, the difference is obvious. Said another way, for a guitarist wanting to get a strat, an American Standard with stock pickups is a solid all around choice for an only strat. But for a strat connoisseur, there are much better pickups. I'd definitely take a set of Tex Mex pickups over the current American Standards.
