Members Tidal Rhythm
I've had guitars with locking tuners, but never ones with the auto-trim mechanism. Are they as stable as other locking tuners? As a guy who's getting lazy, I like the idea of not having to snip the string tips off after re-stringing and I know it shouldn't matter about how many revolutions are on the tuning ped since the locking screw holds the string tight inside, but it just seems weird to me not to have any of the string on the peg. Members Tidal Rhythm
What brand of guitars is that on? I don't know if they come stock on any model, but I know there are a couple of brands you can buy and install yourself. Members CoqBelliqueux
Cool, I'm tempted myself, I'll just read the reviews first. I just got my first non-Floyd guitar in years and that would be a nice mod. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Planet-Waves-Auto-Trim-Tuning-Machines-6-InLine?sku=361450

Members axegrinder
+1 on Planet Waves. No extra turns required OR recommended, and 18:1 gear ratio is superior to the competition. imo
Members CoqBelliqueux
It's great how the reviews mentioning problems don't specify the type of guitar. 4 of the strings on my guitar go through string trees, would that mess it up?
Members Karma1
I also have the Planet Waves. I installed them on my PRS Santana SE and like others have said, they are great.

If you have a well cut and lubricated nut and proper string trees, tuning issues shouldn't be much of a problem. Too many people think that locking tuners are a panacea for tuning problems, when in reality the machines themselves are the not typically the weak link. Sorry for not being clear. I don't really have tuning problems per se, so I wouldn't inquire about these things were it not for the auto-trim feature. Members Verne Andru
I was considering the Planet Waves until I found out they are made with plastic shafts IIRC. So I went with Grover Mini-Rotomatics and wire-snippers instead.

Members cBc
Installing the tuners is the easy part. Drilling out the holes in the headstock (if required) perfectly true is the hard part.
