My song idea journal.

This is my ongoing original-song-ideas-clips thread. What I've been doing whenever I get the chance/inspiration is going onto my computer, opening up my simple little recording tools (acoustica mixcraft for recording/mixing and beatcraft for drum sequencing) and mixing together "abbreviated" versions of song ideas -- The idea is to put something together as well-mixed as I'm able to, but also sort of be "condensed" because it takes less time and effort to put together, and, in most cases, I don't really know how to fully flesh out the songs and they remain unfinished. This is for posterity so I can build a catalog of "here's the jist of it" mp3s. I have TONS of ideas in my head, most/all of them incomplete, so I need to get these babies down!

 

I'm looking to share and will listen to feedback if any is given. Also note that I don't wish to be a lead singer and don't even consider myself capable of it, so I'm not especially looking for vocal feedback.

- http://www.gulchcomic.com/workstuff/stay.mp3 I'd been playing the little verse riff in my doodles for quite some time and finally decided to try to expand on it a bit and put it to a beat. Some of the elements wrote themselves but I still haven't quite figured out the driving force of the song. I'm even less capable of singing this song than usual so the vocals are pretty funny.

 

- http://www.gulchcomic.com/images/stars.mp3 With this one I was going for something a bit poppy and "weezer"-esque, perhaps, but the recording sounds a bit more trite than what I had in my head. I think there may be something there but it needs some changes and additions.

 

- http://www.gulchcomic.com/images/windpipe2.mp3 this is my much more brooding song idea than usual. This one came out of nowhere. I was playing around with my recording software and put this together on the spot with no previous designs on it. The little melody wrote itself. I actually think this is one of my better arrangements, even if it's fairly simple (though I have no problems admitting that almost everything I play is pretty simple -- it is what it is).

I like some of the ideas and licks in it but -- as someone else pointed out to me -- It's a bit busy and could use some un-{censored}ing. I also have no idea what to do with the verse. I hate the progression I put there. As usual, I think I have something here but it needs something else too. Maybe I'd benefit from a cowriter.

For the bass I'm using an SX I got for $115 and never even changed the strings. I don't even know how to set up a bass. Oh well, it sounds fine to me.
