Members venturehead
What's the difference? Just curious, I've played both but they seem pretty similar to me.
Members SpaceProg
This is very subjective, but the Legacy sounds (to me) more like a Fender Strat (but with a bit more oomph available). I'm surprised you thought the S-500 sounded similar, as you can get lots of tonal variation with the MFD pups and the toggle switch with lots of pickup combinations (IMO, of course). Members DaleH
^^Legacy is classic strat tones, S500 is more modern strat tones.
Members SpaceProg
I guess you could say that, as the S-500 was supposed to be Leo's continuation of where the Fender Strat would have gone had it evolved. The S-500 is definitely hotter to me. Nothing bad I can say about either the Legacy or the S-500, though.
Members DaleH
Yeah I could make due with either for sure.
Members thunder100
To me it is getting hotter this way-->Legacy-->S500-->Comanche-->Comanche with Will Ray Bridge Pickup Also once we plugged them in this way and break up(not so much volume)apart tone moves up this way Roland

Members scolfax
The only difference between these two models are the pickups: [video=youtube;fVR7zt08SK4]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVR7zt08SK4
Members metallica_00
Yup, it's a pickup thing, Legacy more traditional Strat, sweeter, lower output, chimier, S500 is hotter and bolder sounding.
Members DavidMgT
In addition to what has been said about the pickups, the S500 has a mini toggle for additional pickup combos. It essentially adds the middle pickup to each selection so you can play with all 3 pickups at once.

Members SpaceProg
If I had to choose between the Legacy or the S-500, I'd pick the S-500 because of the overall versatility of it. However, I've never really been on the quest for "True Strat" tone, so... I just pick what I think would be best for my style of music and playing. Members thunder100
another significant difference is that most Comanches have maple caps. True, almost all-but then again almost Mine is a 1 piece mahagonay Their is annother (1.000.00 repetition)thread wether wood matters-->YES it doesBut pickups matter to at least same degree--> I think even more Often said here-->all depends on the taste but me (if I would not have a Comanche ) would pick the S500 all the time ,and if it is just to sound different to the myrads of Fenders arround Roland
