Members Brainfertilizer
As I was thumbing through some old guitar magazines from the very early 80s, I ran across an advertisement for the Fender Lead I and Lead II. They seem like pretty cool guitars. At the very least, they lack the vintage trem that I detest so much. They aren't too expensive on eBay, either, it seems. Has anyone played one? How do they sound? ...I just want to avoid fixating too much on a guitar, spending money to get it, and finding out it sounds like crap (like I did w/ the Aria Pro II TS-500). IMHO this one was ash, nice natural axe. However I didn't find anything extra. It doesn't sound like crap, but there is a reason why these are cheaper on the eBay, even vintage. Members Faber
Played in a band with a guy that had a Lead I - He made that one sound real good, but I also remember that it was terribly heavy, if that's a consideration for you
Members Engl Kramer
I played a friends Lead one regularly in rehearsal almost twenty years ago (christ!). It wasn't heavy at all. It was comfy and it sounded great when it stayed in tune- which unfortunately wasn't often. That's not relevant though I'm sure, just a crappy nut. I really like them and I keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on an HB one. The one I played was a custom painted one- black on a white body.
