Take the pickguard off and give it a little turn. See Hendix had a notch in the pickguard to reach it without lifting the guard.

Strat or tele? My tele had the neck pickup mounted to the body so I could do all the setup without a guard. Then just slide it in and screw it down.

Strat. Thinking about buying one of the Classic Series MIM's. I've seen where a lot of people say you have to take the neck off, but that doesn't make sense to me. I would think adjusting relief would work best when the neck is under tension from the strings.

I have a 60's Classic Strat,it is a little finicky to adjust.

I don't have to take the neck right off but I do have to loosen the neck screws enough to tilt it back a bit.

Luckily it has remained pretty stable over the 3-4 years I've had it.not much adjustment needed .

I've done what seems the 'common' thing of:

a) Loosen strings quite a bit

b) Put capo on the neck somewhere

c) undo neck screws so neck comes off

d) Adjust truss rod

e) Put neck back on

f) Re-Tune

Only takes about 5-10 minutes

Just carving out the pickguard wouldn't cut it in my case.

Only half of the adjustment screw is visible when you take the PG off

You would have to notch the body of my strat as well to adjust the rod without loosening the neck screws.
