for one particularly good point of reference (IMO): a black '57 Duo-Jet is currently valued at around $5,000 - $6,200 according to the 2011 Vintage Guitar Price Guide. that assumes it's in great condition with case. i've seen them priced quite a bit higher, but not sure if they're exactly "flying off the shelves" at any price these days given the slow economy.

I saw one go on ebay for about 2000 (I think it may have been a '59 and not a '57 though... can't remember clearly.) It wasn't at all original though. Refinish, refretted twice, belt rash on the back... I still think it's good. I'd rather have a playable guitar than a too worn down one that can't be played to the best of its ability.
