Members noisebloom
I've had mostly very good luck buying online without playing the guitars first. The only guitar I bought online but haven't bonded with is the Studio 50s Tribute Les Paul I got from AMS for $849. I made a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes when I bought it: (1) I bought it on impulse, and (2) I bought it thinking I'd flip it if it didn't work out. So now I have a guitar that I wasn't 100% on to begin with, and the market value has dropped off, so I'd be losing money if I sold it now. It's not like I got burned or anything; it's a good guitar that, for whatever reason, just doesn't feel right in my hands. I could have returned it, I suppose, but returning it just wasn't on my mind. So it's a lesson to me to stick with my normal policy: buy guitars carefully, and buy them to play, not for resale value. And take advantage of the return policy, if necessary. Based on that experience, I'd say around $800 is my limit, theoretically.

Members Guitar Heel
Empirical data shows that I'm willing to spend at least $3,000. No idea what the max would be, would depend on the situation.
