Members Pine Apple Slim
I have a Chandler 6 string lap. I learned first on a dobro(little d) tuned to bluegrass high G tuning. THis tuning is GBDGBD, low to high. I fooled around some with E and D tuning, also C6, on the lap, but I found I didnt play it enough to really get comfortable with those tunings. So I bought some high G strings and I presently have those on the lap steel. Im thinking for varieties sake it would be nice to string the lap in the same 135135 tuning, but down lower in a different key, like E or D. Im wondering what string gagues might best accomodate that. The present high G set has huge strings on the lowest 2 G & B strings. Something like a 58 and a 47 or something close to that, The D string is in the 30s, kinda normal but bigger than average, the middle G string is a big ole unwound 24 or 25. The B string is an 17 or 18 I think, and the high D string is a 15 or 16.So what guages might work for E C# B E C# B ? I dont want something that feels mismatched.Maybe 50, 40, 30, 20, 15, 11 or something like that?
