Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted May 24, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 24, 2013 Dave Gilmour famoulsy mixes his choice of Fender and SD pickups, and we all have our favourite neck and bridge position pickups, but what say ye to the ideal characters of the Strat middle pickup? What SHOULD a middle pickup have in terms of output and magnet type?
Members billybilly
It's such a personal thing but I'll tell you what I like.A little higher output because I tend to lower it a bit, this prevents it from getting in the way of my pick. I like the highs tamed a bit as well to prevent it from sounding shrieky on it's own. I have been using A5's for magnets but have used A2 with good success in ash strats, not so much in alder, gets mushy.

My onw feelings are that the middle position on a Strat is almost like the closest you get to an acoustic guitar, and as I onlyt ever play ash bodied Strats, as I can't get a sound I like from an alder Strat, I do concur on the Alnico II option, although I may end up degaussing an SSL1 as an experiment
