Members jacarual
Went to the finals at my local GC tonight. I loved it but didn't agree with the judges pick. Anyone know how they choose their judges? Are they employees of the store? Then they didn't even let us know who was in places 2 through 6... I was also quite surprised to see their techniques and how different they all were. Another thing I noticed was the largest tom was a 14" mounted and it was shaking like crazy. They played on a Pearl kit (not sure which one) and I've seen posts where many people don't like the bouncing around of a mounted tom. What do you do to prevent it, or do they all do that? What does the Nationwide winner get...anyone know?

I'm sure most of what you asked is on their site, but I know the national winner gets a car, an endorsement deal, like $10,000 gift card for Guitar Center, a {censored} ton of stuff. You are not alone. You'd think MFGs would have addressed that problem ages ago. All it takes to fix is a stabilizer rod affixed to the bottom of the drum. If you have a rack system you can use an extra clamp to run a dowel across the bottom of the drum and support it by the inside of the hoop. A straight tom leg works well too. Foot end against the inside of the hoop obviously. Might be a little trickier if your toms are on the bass drum though...

Members armitage787
DW's mounting system keeps my floortom pretty stable.
Members FitchFY
Yamaha's mouting system is more or less flawless in my eyes - those ball clamps are simply amazing. Love it!

Love it! I'm with you fitchface, My suspended floors shake some, but not too much. I've decided to eschew the yess mount on my floor tom in favor of a rims mount, however. the enormous tripod I have to schlep around to mount the bastard is retiring in favor of a single braced straight stand. just too fricking heavy. Members theFoot
Ya'll seen those video clips on Neil Peart's site ? even his high toms bounce like Superballs . I guess he got bored with hitting drums that stay still. Always up for the extra challenge, that Neil. I second the stability of dw's tom holders. 1 stand with a 14" and a 16" holds 'em pretty tight.
