Members BonzoMoon2002
New drum kit time. I MUST HAVE the feel of the 24-inch diameter in the bass drum, 22 just doesn't cut it anymore. The question is, has anyone heard a 24x16? I currently play a 24x18 premier genista (birch god) and it rules. I also was thinking of shortening the toms, which are currently 12x10, 14x12, 16x14. Maybe 12x9, 14x11, 16x13? It'll still be birch but I want the kit to sound uniform.
Members mikeofbaltimore
The shallower kick will be more responsive and have more punch.
Members kestrou
Back in the 70s the size 24x14 was the most popular - food for thought... kestrou
Members sirskatealot066
the bigger the kick drum, the shallower it should be IMO. its moving a lot more air and it will take much longer to respond and youll get a sluggish kind of feel and sound. making the drum shallower will cause it to respond quicker and youll get better articulation. thats what i think anyways. It will give it more rumble (longer decay), but it will also make it slower to respond.
Members jenksdrummer
I dunno about all that, but I really like my 24x18 - more than my 22x18's...

Members Cross Eyed Mary
Ditto on the 14 or 16. 24x18's are just too sluggish for me.

Members Cross Eyed Mary
No, 24x20 is the biggest i've played (depth wise at least, 26x16 would be the largest kick i've touched), it felt like total {censored}. Yeah, it was like a cannon....when i jumped on it. It's dog{censored} for anyone who wants to use the slightest bit of dynamics.
