Members JohnCav
your effort will make you good in time. along with lessons, metronomes, and exposure to good music. for 5 months, it sounds like you're doing just fine. At the moment, Im looking into lessons. Checking a couple sites last night, and Im checking the phonebook tomorrow. Hell, The music teacher at my high school might be able to find me a place/teacher. Members soundcreation
local music stores can also be a source for teachers too. Or entertainment paper adds or craiglist....etc...
Members JohnCav
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, But I took a couple lessons and they fixed my grip. My thumb/index were a bit off, and Ive been working along with http://www.vicfirth.com/education/wessels_beginner-lessons.html and Im very pleased +1 to all the lessons ideas. Even more so than before.

Members jdwhitak
Like others have you should look into getting in with a good teacher. Be selective in who you hook up with too. I've been fortunate in that I've had very good accomplished teachers. The first was Johnny Lee Lane of the IU School of Music. He know works for Remo as Director of Education. The guy I'm studying with now is Paul Berns, Head Percussionist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. I'm miles ahead of where I'd be otherwise without their help!
