Members BonzoMoon2002
Has anyone heard a bass drum with a 17" depth? Like 24x17 or 22x17? I was thinking it may be a happy medium. Maybe I could get between power/response if I went 24x17, 12x9, 14x11 and 16x13. Birch. Any thoughts?

Members BonzoMoon2002
Well it will be a custom kit, I was more asking if anyone has heard what these kinds of configurations sounded like.
Members sirskatealot066
most of yamahas kicks are 17" long. ive heard an oak custom 20x17, a stage custom birch 20x17, and a beech custom 22x17 and all of them had the same characteristics of their size (20s were punchy, 22 was a little less) except they had noticably more sustain and low end. Members JBrig
My toms on my Mapex Saturn are those sizes you listed. They are awsome. If you want to hear those go to our website. www.myspace.com/thatswhatband and they are on the recordings. Most of the songs on there are live. Everything is mic'd up but not alot of effects, so you can see what they sound like. Use headphones.
Members lossforgain
They sound good. You'll never notice a difference between a 16 and a 17 deep kick in my experience.
Members manoeuver
try a 16.5x23, you won't be disappointed. or for warmer tones go with the metric system.
Members Jarick
I had a 22x17 kick drum and it was really weak sounding. Pretty sure it's just the construction though (Keller 8-ply maple). My Pro M 22x18 blows it away, as did my old 22x18 Starclassic birch. I also had some toms in the sizes you mentioned. The 12" sounded great, but the 14" and 16" lacked low end "depth" and "roundness".
Members BonzoMoon2002
Cool guys. The bass drum will def be 24" just trying to decide if it should be 16" or 17" deep. I would definitely hate to lose the roundness of the toms man. The Premier Genistas I have now are 14x12 and 16x14 and rule hard. Just thinking about getting some quicker response and a bit more punch.
Members Jarick
Well different kits have different sounds, so unless you're getting the same drums, it's all up in the air. Only way to know for sure is to play the drums you are looking to buy.
