Members FitchFY
For a punchy tom sound, I'm a big fan of clear Remo Emperors or Pinstripes. Emperors tend to breathe a bit more in my mind and be a bit more open.

Members BatheInVice
Is it recommended to use a 2 ply for the resonant head? Or is that even made. Maybe I'll start researching things before asking questions.
Members BatheInVice
Actually upon researching. The Remo Powerstroke 4 kind of sounds like what I'm looking for.
Members boxofrocks
If your drums a bright naturally, I'd look at a 2 ply coated to warm them up. If you want controlled and focused, EC2 rules, pinstripes are good for that too, and I found pinstripes to sound deeper and lower pitched than EC2 tuned to the same tension. Just what I found experimenting with different head combos. But I don't play acrylics, so take it for what it is.

Members Cross Eyed Mary
Pins are going to be alot deader, too dead on an acrylic kit. I'm telling you, clear emperors.
Members JMR
I use pinstripes on an acrylic, and their not dead at all.
Members Cross Eyed Mary
Well "dead" is all subjective. To ME, the sound they make is dead. To some, it's resonant. All i'm saying is that clear 2 ply heads will give a nice full, punchy tone on acrylic. If he wants it punchier he can add muffling, whereas he's stuck with the punch of a Pinstripe.
