Members toober
What is a good mic pack for the price? I'm trying to stay on the smaller side of mics. I would like Beta 98H but a slew of those is too pricey. I have also been looking at Sennheiser e604.
Members race81
The shure kits are nice, but Im not a fan of the bulkiness........I use the e604's on all my toms and they sound great, 57 on snare and a sm91 on kick....not cheap mics, but not super expensive either. The e604's work great, small package, and mount easily....very happy with them.
Members toober
It'd be for somewhat of a cocktail kit. Could one mic pick up something below and above it if it's placed in the middle?
Members race81
If you are wanting to experiment, I would try a single overhead condensor mic. Placed from rear overhead pointed at 2 o,clock.....move around to get desired effect. Simon...(Boxofrocks) experimented with this setup indoors and had a decent success with it. he doesn,t pop in much anymore so im not sure where his vids are. Members Carminemw
Right now I'm using a kick, snare and overhead, and it covers pretty well for live. I use a Audix D6 on the kick, an Audix I5 on the snare and an MXL 604 overhead. The rooloff on the 604 and the 2 cartridges really do pretty well... Members MX DRUMMER
The Shure DMK kit is great. Comes with three 57's and a Beta 52 kick drum mic. Not to bad on price either especially of you get them used.
Members toober
I'm trying to make a mobile set so overhead, mic stands, and long heavy mics are of out of consideration. (No, not a one man band)
