Members BonzoMoon2002
For the rock drummers out there:I am looking into a new kit. Birch. I currently play floors (depthXdiamer) 12x14 and 14x16. I was thinking of switching it up for a bit more thumpy balls. Maybe switch the 12x14 to a 14x14? However I was once warned against square tom sizes.Any suggestions?
Members cdawg
prolly will do. i play a 15, 16 set-up and i love it. 14 would probably sound great. i'm not really a fan of square sizes, but that's just a preference.
Members Phil_The_Rodent
I prefer short sizes over long as they're more resonant. Why not experiment with batter head choices first?
Members Phil_The_Rodent
Ya, they play off each other, but I generally would consider it an acostic mirror. It's not producing a tone, but it will reflect what it is given so does certainly affect the overall resonance. My 16" is only 12" deep and it has boom for days. On my old kit, the 16x16 and 18x18 were mostly just attack, no matter how I tuned them. I might be wrong, from a physics standpoint, but we're generally speaking about the resonance of a chamber and I do have those equations somewhere and can review them.
