I bought a honda Fit. Lotsa room and great gas milage

I have a 2000 VW Golf which has plenty of room also. I think my record was:

 

* my Eden 2x10,

* GK 800RB head,

* EAW three-way (15+8+horn)

* an 8-channel powered Peavey head

* a Fender twin

* a double guitar case

* my bass

* my bag of cables

* my guitarist's two bags of cables and stuff

* my guitarist

 

We rode a little low that night, but everything fit.

 

I still have (and love) that car. 135K almost, gets 28+ mpg, runs pretty well...I've had to fix some stuff on it, which has been expensive. But of all the cars I've owned, it's the one that's the most fun to drive. I get behind that wheel and I just *love* driving that car, way more than any of my Toyotas or Hondas. It's not as reliable. But man, does it drive great.

Two 1x12's cabs, my bass in its hardshell case & a coupla gig bags'll fit snugly in my VW Jetta. The bass in it's hardshell will slide behind the front seats(in front of the rear seats). I'll drop the bags in the trunk and slide 'em ahead. The 12s drop right in. There's still plenty of room for racks & stands, etc. because if I needed to, I could fold up the rear seats and load on top of them.

I was able to fit all my gear listed below, plus about half of a drum set into my chevy aveo one time. I drove very slowly and carefully, but it was all in there

I was looking at getting one of these (about 30 mpg): Or one of these (40-50 mpg): But it seems like the rear seat pass through won't let me put a bass and two cabs in either one. So now I am looking at one of these (26 mpg average): The Element is currently the most desireable for me. I can put a roof rack and a hitch on it and haul a metric {censored}-tonne of stuff out into the boonies. The only other ones (with better mileage) I can think of are the Mazda3: Or the Toyota Matrix: I don't like the look of the 'Toy. I haven't tried the Mazda but it looks to be a winner with a very sporty outlook and 148hp. I'm still stuck on the Element I think.

 

That could be my Mazda3 in that pic, except we don't have vegetation like that around here. Performance-wise, the Mazda outdoes the Matrix/Vibe by a pretty wide margin and actually outperforms the RSX in everything but straight line acceleration. The hatchback has a bigger motor than the sedan version with a few more HP and considerably more torque which peaks at lower RPM. It's quite quick. I've had mine for 1.5 years and I don't have any complaints except that it's sometimes hard to keep the front wheels from breaking loose in 1st and 2nd gear. I can fit my SVT, Berg NV610, two basses and my downhill MTB in there at the same time. Loads of cargo space with the seats folded down. I get about 32-35MPG on the highway but I'm a leadfoot.

 

I rented a Matrix the last time I was in Toronto and while the ride was nice and it has tons of space the, base motor is anemic. I really felt it lacked power for merging onto the 401 and such things.

 

That being said, I think you won't find much problem getting your stuff into an RSX with the rear seats folded down. Fun car to drive, too. Considerably more expensive than the Mazda as well.

 

I drove the Mazdaspeed3 a few weeks ago and man is that thing fast. Think 260-odd HP, 280 lb-ft torque in a 3000lb car....

I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse. It's so tiny inside. I can fit one GS112 in the trunk, one GS112 in the back seat, and my bass(es) in the front seat. I hate it.
