Members mlwarriner
how do i get out of windows XP to a dos prompt?
Members WillPlay4food
You can't get to a true DOS prompt as XP is not built on top of DOS like Win 9X was. You can still run a Command Prompt though. This might be under Programs -> Accessories and the icon has C:> as its picture.
Members mlwarriner
i can get the dos window, but i want clear out of windows all together.
Members jonathan_matos5
it is not dos based. if you go to programs and then accessories there may be a command prompt that is similar to dos ,but controlls nothing on the computer. i think they only put it there so you can run those olde school dos games:D
Members mlwarriner
so...does one really need to get clear out and format the internal HDD to reload the computer? or will it work to just boot from a windows disk?
Members rastafarian_nz
If you're looking to format the hard drive and/or reload Windows, you can boot from the XP CD and do both from there. Jono: I wish the command prompt would play DOS games. Sadly, it doesn't, but "DOSBox" does.

Members Zeromus-X
Everyone's pretty much spot-on here. If you want a DOS-based OS, you'll have to go back to the 98/ME era of operating systems. Other than that, the DOS emulators can do a decent job. I believe you can get MechWarrior2 working under XP just by messing with a few settings and runtime commands, but it's been a loooooong time. Members rastafarian_nz
Whoa. A disc retailing for $600 in poor old NZ would never see the floor of my car, let alone come into contact with it. If it did make it onto the floor of my car, who/whatever moved it there would be getting the hose.
