I use 2. I first heard "Iron Maiden" around 1980, I was big into Rush. Harris really didn't stand out until "Number of the Beast", and when I heard the title track, that was it for me. I sat down and learned how to sing and play it. It wasn't until later that I found out that Harris was also a major lyricist in the group. After having played Priest, AC/DC, Scorpions, Van Halen, and Sabbath, the driving bass lines, changing time signatures and blazing licks were the prog of metal for me.

At first, I used a pick, but I sat and used 2 fingers at slower speed until I could play at full speed. If anyone asks me about how to get faster, I tell them that the only real way to get there is to start slowly. Just because you can't run a 5 min mile today doesn't mean that you can't run it. If you run every day, you'll get faster - that's it. Do your best now and you'll get better.
