Members bottomfeeder
I hear bridge mass improves sustain and clarity of tone. mass basically equals weight. so how much do these bridges weigh? fender bent tin?gotoh 201?gotoh 206?badass? Members Darkstorm
Its really not about weight. Thickness would be better term for referance. Look at stock fender bridge. Thin cheap bent metal. Look at allmost any other bridge. You can tell by sight that the others are a lot thicker. And instead of being bent thin metal is solid cast or modelled. Aluminum is very light. But a massive as in thicker one does much better for sustain then thin one. Brass is my fave metal for bridges tone etc wise. The ultra hard and heiveir then average metal blend used in baddassII and real floyd trems while adding sustain also badly over emphasise treble compared to other metals that are more neutral sound wise. The best bridges imo are locking one. The individuals saddles have a set screw that when tightened locks it in place. This helps the bridge to further act like one peice rather then a bunch of peices.
Members bottomfeeder
I have heard if you go string through body, that bridge mass doesnt matter. is this true?
Members Flod
Originally posted by bottomfeeder I have heard if you go string through body, that bridge mass doesnt matter. is this true? Yeah, as the strings are locked directly to the body and dont need a solid bridge to transfer their energy.
Members sunburstbasser
The string-thru thing also explains why Fenders have a bent piece of metal for a bridge, as they didn't need anything heavier usually.
